I have to admit that James Alain had me stumped about the whereabouts of this vine covered, stop sign, so we figured it might be a good quiz question on the Pasty Cam page, for a change. Jim figures this is probably Michigan's most country-fied stop sign and gives the following clue for you to figure out its whereabouts: It is located within 10 miles of the Portage Lake Lift Bridge. Whoever comes up with the correct answer will be awarded one of the coveted "Early Birds" that are normally only found over on the What'sUP page. Let the games begin...

What a cool game, lol. I wish I could go checking this out, but alas, 10 miles from the Portage Lift Bridge is a little too far for me. Good luck you pasty cammers!!!!

With a little more location info, we might be able to use google-maps to locate the sign.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 - 07:42 am:

I'm not in the run for this question.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 - 07:46 am:

Janie, you crack me up!!

By JH (Thumbgardener) on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 - 07:48 am:

Is it anywhere near the stop sign in my favorite UP stop sign picture?

What the hay..I'm guessing in the Laurium area?

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 - 08:05 am:

Is that where Superior Rd. comes into Baltic Rd., just north of the Chassell/Painesdale Rd.??

Mary says: Good job, Capt. Paul...I bet you've stopped at this corner with the Road Runner, back in your Yooper living days, that's how you knew! :-)

Good morning everyone. I will say the mystery stop sign is located at the four corners where Superior Rd, Chassell-Painesdale Rd, Onkalos Corner Rd meet. That's my guess.

Mary says: Grace gets a half a bird, since she gave just a little more detail, than the Capt. Good job, Grace!

Is it out of Lake Linden on the way to Dreamland, the stop sign would be on Rice Lake Road?

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 - 08:54 am:

"Dogpatch"? ;-D Looks like it belongs along the road where all the junk vehicles are located.

By Donna (Donna) on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 - 09:46 am:

No clue...but it looks AWESOME!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 - 09:46 am:

Is that what the road is called Grace?? I always knew it as the Baltic Road out of South Range, but I see on Bing Maps it is indeed Onkalos Corner Road.

Where is Mary when we need her to tell us if we're getting warmer or still ice cold?? J

Mary says: Here I am, Capt. Paul. ;->

And here's another nearby countrified stop sign:

With the location determined, the next question is: What kind of vine is it? Hope it isn't poison ivy!

By Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck) on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 - 02:49 pm:

BTW, LB might be sold, but the fat lady ain't singing yet! She's warming up back stage though, dang it! If it sells, we'll be in Calumet,or CH,or LLB. Full closure for me since mom and dad (GN) are both gone. If LB is gone then they are REALLY gone for me. My dad should have made other arrangements in his trust! I won't even get into the stepmom thing. It will be just time to create new memories with a new generation (my son, nephew Ben, brother Mike and my good pal Marty) I guess, NO ONE can take the Keweenaw or the U.P. away from me, but it shouldn't of ended this way in regards to Little Betsy. Hard for me to purchase right now with obligations down here in Commerce and my son at Grand Valley. let alone what the Gov is doing to the teachers here in Michigan. Told my son Nate, that we would return to the Keweenaw on OUR TERMS! Thanks for letting me vent.

Fun when nature decorates objects like that.

By Hollidays (Hollybranches) on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 - 04:21 pm:

UC, so sorry about LB. One good thing is; not too many camps, or as the yoopers call it; "comps", are selling UP here. The "fat lady" will soon cave, trust me. Then it will all be yours. Went through the same thing with the stepdad. Glad you got to vent. So sorry you have to deal with this.
Love this new Early Bird game, maybe other people will stand a chance now. :)

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 - 06:58 pm:

Well, that stinks, UC. Like your idea of doing things on your OWN TERMS, though.

When we were UP there in August we came upon an area between Little Betsy and Lac La Belle that we just loved. If I win the lottery, I'm there.

It was fun reading everybody's guesses about the stop sign. You'll have to do that again, Mary. Though I don't see how everybody doesn't have a chance to bag the bird now.

BTW, hope you had a good b'day Hollidays. Your b'day lands on the same day as my oldest grandson. He was 13 on the 13th!! His golden b'day. Hard to believe.

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 - 10:02 pm:

UC ~

You're right...... nothing you can do now. BUT you can create your own memories and give that to the next generation. That's what we did with the situation we had in Antrim County. Just out of our hands.....

BTW, another nice win for the 'Cats last weekend! Go Cats Go!!!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 - 06:33 am:

I'm really sorry to hear that, Uncle Chuck! I hope a possible sale falls through, but if it does not, you do have the memories. My heart goes out to you, your family, and your friend Marty! Take care.
