I ran into Joe Kirkish the other day and he told me about some "For Sale" photos he snapped, of what he called, "the longest used car lot in captivity." . I was quite intrigued, so I asked him to send them on to me and the result is what you see here today. All of these vehicles were for sale along US 41, between Hancock and Ahmeek. Joe says the variety changes weekly, with some grouped together, some displaying the price, some don't even have a sign advertising they're for sale, but they're definitely 'on display'. So, if you're looking for a 'new' used tractor, motorcycle, truck, jeep, car or even a boat, hop in your vehicle and head in whatever direction takes you to the upper highway (the local name for US 41, between Hancock and Calumet). You might just find yourself driving a new 'old' set of wheels.

Great roadside scenery......NOT!:]

By Mr. Bill (Mrbill) on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 - 09:08 am:

Along with the homes in disrepair along that route, not an upbeat statement on our economy.

Great roadside scenery....NOT!:] (I'd be willing to bet that the owners of these vehicles have made jokes about Tennessee at one time or other);->

Mary, sorry about the double post....I hit a 'wrong' key the first time and thought it didn't register. I'm having my 'bad Monday' on Tuesday this week. :-}

Reminds me of lots of the South particulaly areas of Texas :>)

Has it ever dawned on any of you that you will find
such scenes in every state?

By Mark Groenink (Mark) on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 - 11:20 am:

I intended to take a closer look at the John Deere last week when we were camping by Lake Linden but never got there. Oh well couldn't got it in the camper anyway.

I can't quite make out the numbers on the side of the tractor, but it looks like it could be a 3020 or 4020. Great little workhorse tractor.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 - 01:38 pm:

Tom, you are correct! In fact right across the street from us was a junk car/farm machinery graveyard. Today there is a cul da sac with 6 $350,000.00+ homes sitting there. It humors me though when these neighbors are digging to plant trees, shrubs, etc. in their yards and they pull up car or farm machinery pieces and scraps!

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 - 02:01 pm:

I especially like the tractor.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 - 05:23 pm:

You're right, Tom. Being a southerner but having lived in all parts of the U.S., I've been trying to convince folks of that fact for years.;) Janie T, that's funny....maybe someone will find enough parts to build their own vehicle someday.

By Mark Groenink (Mark) on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 - 06:22 pm:

Dale I think the tractor is a 2020. If anybody gets close to the it check the price please.

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 - 09:15 pm:

Of course, Tom. Every town also has their poor and/or junky neighborhoods. Certainly we have. Not all small towns like where I live are historic or unique. It just seems some places have more obvious places. I'm not being a snob, just stating what I've observed.

I love the old jeep under the pines.
