Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Thursday, September 1, 2011 - 07:22 am:

The beginning of September unofficially marks the start of Fall here in the U.P., but today's photo from our September "Legend of the Pasty Cam" shows the color change of the leaves, that happens more toward the end of the month. Nancy Nelson is featured from our 2011 Calendar here today, with a scene you can find just about anywhere across the U.P., with an old structure on its last legs, surrounded by fall.

Nancy is actually the originator of the idea for the Pasty Cam's "Shoebox Memories" featured every Sunday, and she has shared many great U.P. subjects, both current and from the past.

We're heading into the last quarter of the year, but if you've not already acquired your own 2011 Pasty Cam calendar, you can pick one up at half price. The twelve large size photographs of subjects from the U.P. are worth that alone, as they are all suitable for framing and would be a beautiful addition to your decor. Proceeds from the sale of the calendars help support care for the elderly here in the U.P.

I love that picture. It's just a run down shack, but you just see the beauty of its surroundings. Absolutely love it!!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, September 1, 2011 - 07:38 am:

Thanks for posting my summer vacation home there, Mary. Yes it looks rough on the outside, but you should really see the inside..... ;-)

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, September 1, 2011 - 07:42 am:

hummm....this picture sums it up about how I'm feeling these days lately. Tired!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Thursday, September 1, 2011 - 08:19 am:

That gives a "lean-to" a whole new meaning!

By JAD, Orgnst (Jandalq) on Thursday, September 1, 2011 - 08:43 am:

Lost dreams.

By Mel, MN (Mehollop) on Thursday, September 1, 2011 - 09:18 am:

From the looks of the lean, Fall has well and truly been in progress for a while! :D

By Eugene Zuverink (Zube) on Thursday, September 1, 2011 - 09:23 am:

What a history in that little home. You just
wonder what year that was built.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Thursday, September 1, 2011 - 09:45 am:

Yeah, Capt., I'll bet you have an indoor pool in that 'vacation home'.;D

That sounds like one of those ol' "company houses", I've seen plenty of those — quite nicely decorated, cozy and delightful on the inside, but no obvious maintenance on the outside.

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Thursday, September 1, 2011 - 02:17 pm:

Ahhhhhh, as my Dad would say "that house was someone's pride and joy when it was first built". Dad was a carpenter.

Just think of all the hard labor that went into that home ~ squaring the timbers, then chinking it up. Setting the windows.

It's great someone still cares enough to brace it so it doesn't fall over.

Autumn's on the way.

By Richard Wieber (Dickingrayling) on Thursday, September 1, 2011 - 03:13 pm:

When I saw today's picture it felt like I was seeing a self-portrait. Having just turned 80 that is just how I feel getting out of bed some days--and I don't have any props to hold me up. The next time you see an old place like that be nice to it, it may be someones brother.

By Hollidays (Hollybranches) on Thursday, September 1, 2011 - 03:51 pm:

Autumn is on the way, contrary to all of the disbeliefs. I live here and can see the changes every single day.
Hot temps today and tomorrow but the weekend will be much cooler. Was going to say back to normal but, I've learned to stay away from that normal word. Saturday, Sunday and Monday, low 40s and highs of 70. Nice September temps.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Thursday, September 1, 2011 - 05:32 pm:

....or it may be someone's sister, Richard...like me. :} I'm not 80 (yet) but I have to have 2 props not only to get outta bed, but to walk! And like the Capt.'s 'vacation home', I probably could use 3 props!

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Thursday, September 1, 2011 - 07:48 pm:

I have quite a few pictures of old houses and buildings. I always say, 'if those walls could talk', how interesting of a story it could tell'.

I am starting a new photo album and I have a lot of those pictures going in it.(*_*)

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Thursday, September 1, 2011 - 08:07 pm:

It looks like one of the buildings they are trying to restore at Old Victoria.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, September 1, 2011 - 08:48 pm:

I don't believe there are any dis-believers on here; after all, I always thought Autumn came around this time every year in the northern hemisphere. ;-)

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Thursday, September 1, 2011 - 08:51 pm:

Hollidays..sounds just like our forcast. One more day in the 90s then big drop off to my kind of weather...cool. We deserve it after this godawful heat recently.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, September 1, 2011 - 08:59 pm:

It does, Capt. It always has and it always will.

By Cheryl Rozman (Cotton) on Thursday, September 1, 2011 - 09:38 pm:

Ours looked like that, but was a smaller version & is gone now. It was called a barn or shed.It weathered many years, seasons & storms before its back was broken. They, structures were built tough back then. Had some SISU in them. Right???LOL

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, September 1, 2011 - 10:00 pm:

Totally agree Cheryl!! Our house in Red jacket was built in 1901 and survived many a Witch off the big lake. The Dr. and I experienced one of those in 2001 and while the house creaked and groaned a bit, we never even as much as lost a shingle. When Ike came through here (with lighter winds I might add), we lost shingles and siding and many of the windows leaked. I highly doubt any house here would stand 2 feet of snow on its roof.....

By Hollidays (Hollybranches) on Friday, September 2, 2011 - 07:31 am:

Actually, 21 days till Autumn begins, aka, the fall equinox.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, September 2, 2011 - 05:59 pm:

The UP doesn't understand what the fall equinox is. It travels to its own drummer.
