Lisa Normand recently traveled from Gay, to Lac La Belle, to Bete Grise and found some beautiful sights to photograph and share with us here, today. She started out in Gay with a whopper of a shot, getting a double rainbow, lined up with the Gay smokestack. Talk about being in the right place at the right time. That is definitely a WOW moment.
Traveling on from there, the next stop was in Lac La Belle, where Lisa caught the edge of a flower basket, while looking down at the Resort dock and across the bay, too. Such a peaceful scene, it makes you go, Ahhh. Then heading out to Bete Grise, the next stop was the channel and putting the kayaks in there to do some exploring of the various waterways that connect to the channel, before heading out of the irons and into Lake Superior.
I think these might be just a few of Lisa's favorite things in the Keweenaw, I know they're mine! :->

A double rainbow is caused by the light reflecting inside the raindrop a second time. The colors are reversed in the second rainbow. It doesn't say if this happens all the time or not. Even if it did, I would think that sky conditions would have a lot to do with whether you could see the second rainbow or not. It also says that light could reflect a third or more times, creating what they call "higher order" rainbows, but that's extremely rare.

Thanks, Dale. I was beginning to wonder if double rainbows only happened in Michigan ;), 'cause that's the only place I've ever seen them like that.....honest! ;D
