Saturday night the Keweenaw was treated to some special night lights in the sky and Bob Gilreath was out in the dark getting shots to share with us all. Some folks call them Northern Lights, others use the term Aurora Borealis, but no matter what name you refer to them by, they're nothing short of spectacular, when you're lucky enough to view them in person. Bob sure did a wonderful job of capturing them, with some shining stars included. In the last photo, there's a bright golden glow, right near the tree line on the left. I didn't get a chance to ask Bob what that might be, so hopefully he'll chime in sometime today and give us the scoop. Inquiring minds, want to know.... are you there Bob? ;->

Wow! That's amazing! Seeing the Northern Lights would be a really special treat on a trip up north.

Those pictures are fantastic! The view is looking towards the north, so that wouldn't be the moon in the last photo. Perhaps a boat out on the lake.

Happy Birthday, Deb. How come you didn't own up to getting another year older (but hopefully not deeper in debt) when we got together yesterday? Hope you and Mr. Deb enjoy the rest of your week in the UP.

What good fortune (and talent), Bob. Imagine getting a shot of the Big Dipper and the Northern Lights at the same time. Kudos!

Certainly recognize the top of Brockway! Thank you for the great shots! I love to stay up late and enjoy the Aurora, but have yet to manage a photo - no skill, dangit.
That bright glow on the tree line is the one, enormous (& obnoxious) street lamp someone installed along the M-26 shore route many years ago. A cruel reminder of "civilization" when you want to experience the marvelous Northern wilderness and/or the night sky.

It was amazing we were at a wedding in Copper harbor, got back to the motel and looked up and immediately headed for brockway!
We are starting in to the Perseid meteor shower peaking on the 13th, so I had my camera and tripod along to shoot at night.
It was 72 degrees on the mountain at 2 am!
The lights at the bottom of the 3rd picture are from a house on the shoreline.

Great job, Bob! Couldn't see the "light show" in Ontonagon, too cloudy. Using one of your shots for my wallpaper. Bet you were in awe, I would have been. Thank you for sharing.

I unfortunately missed them Friday night. I do know Bob is proud of these shots; I visited him today and he told me so!! ;-)
