This is the time of year for fawns to be out and about with their mothers and thanks to Julie Strieter, we get a series of shots to enjoy the moment along with her. These three were spotted along the shores of Mud Lake, outside of Lake Linden. Julie was in a boat and had a zoom lens so she could get close without disturbing them. You can see that Mom was being watchful, but the fawns were so comfortable being observed that one of them even decided to sneak a snack from Mom. Thanks for sharing your photos with us Julie and special thanks to Ashlee Harvey for sending them. :->

I just love deer pictures. I can never see enough of these gorgeous creatures. My mom says there's a doe with triplets that come down into her yard this summer. Can't wait to see that.

Fantastic...thanks for sharing!
...and I just had a blond oak moment.

Alex...a what????

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Thursday, August 4, 2011 - 08:37 am:

The fur on the deer reminds me of blond oak :)

By Richard L. Barclay (Notroll) on Thursday, August 4, 2011 - 08:39 am:

Mskatie,
How about this?
Hopfenstark Ostalgia Blonde (Oak Aged) a Golden Ale/Blond Ale beer by Hopfenstark, a brewery in L'Assomption, Quebec.

Either Alex has been doing some long rides or some GOOD friends have. Or he could be dreaming set off by the fawn's white bubbles. lol

On a drive to Lake Erie park yesterday I had to stop to let a doe and her 3 fawns walk across the highway. The fawns were even smaller than those in todays great pictures. What are the odds on a doe having 3 babies at once?
Last time I was out on Mud Lake my two sons fell asleep in the boat at 7 a.m., they could not figure why we were asail by 5:30a.m.??

By Pam & Jim - Calumet (Pjgrill) on Thursday, August 4, 2011 - 09:48 am:

We have a doe and 3 fawns that we have been feeding for about 3 weeks now. They come in every evening, times sometimes vary. It is amazing how fast those little fawns are growing. Tho the little ones are eating corn, and grazing, they still try to nurse. It is a regular circus to watch them, and what I call their daily training program. They run FULL speed in the back yard, around the trees, doing figure 8's, jumping into the air about3 feet, coming to a full stop at full speed and doing a 180 again back to full speed, doing zig zads, etc.. This goes on for up to 15 minutes sometimes.

Well for heavens's sake Richard and Alex. No wonder I wouldn't know. I don't drink beer and I never heard of L'Assomption, Quebec! Sorry.

Someone comment on the mother. I think she looks kinda thin. Like taking care of two young ones is a strain. Maybe it from was earlier in the spring when there still wasn't a lot to eat yet.

By Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck) on Thursday, August 4, 2011 - 11:44 am:

Great Pics! Rowdy, I thought, mommy looked just fine. We'll be U.P. in Nov. for deer season, Mike and Marty could shoot one without a second thought, I don't think I could. I just like being at LB and riding in the woods. I guess it'd be different if I needed it to feed my family, don't get me wrong, I do like the deer sausage though. Save it guys, I know I'm being a candybutt, lol

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Thursday, August 4, 2011 - 11:45 am:

Pretty critters! I've heard that fawn(s) don't have a smell so they aren't easy prey. Anyone ever get close enough to find out? :>

By Rowdy (Roudymi) on Thursday, August 4, 2011 - 12:03 pm:

Had one in the kitchen once long ago. The lenoleum floor was like ice for the little thing. Had a hard time keeping it's feet under it. Don't remember anything about smelling it, but have heard the same. eg. no smell

By Rowdy (Roudymi) on Thursday, August 4, 2011 - 12:05 pm:

P.S. It's always difficult to hear a smell anyway. You usually smell what you heard.

By Cheryl Rozman (Cotton) on Thursday, August 4, 2011 - 03:58 pm:

Rick saw a little fawn that was alone a few weeks ago. I'm sure the mother was near but Rick didn't see it. Anyway, the little fawn started coming near Rick & he kept telling it to go away & he decided to leave. He saw it a few days later but this time it just looked at Rick & didn't come near. I bet the little thing got a good scolding for the last time. LOL I love to watch them in our yard too.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, August 4, 2011 - 09:26 pm:

The mother that we saw at my mom's in June seemed very, very thin. This mom looked a lot more healthy than that one did. You could see her ribs for crying out loud.

No wonder that I quit deer hunting about 20 years ago.
