Good Morning

By David (Dave) on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 - 08:18 am:

I hate it when that happens with technology (the kick start part)!

Ahh..The chip on the shoulder often comes from the block on the top of the head.....

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 - 08:30 am:

Good morning! The pictures are always worth waiting for, though. I didn't have time to be waiting today but had to grab a peek before I rush off to work.

Have a great day, everybody!!

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 - 02:58 pm:

Good ones.

The Day in History, Charlie, was quite interesting. I finally saw the complete movie one night when I couldn't sleep this winter. Good movie with some great acting. Always liked the premise of it. One other movie in that vein was "To Kill a Mockingbird" that was great. Sure don't see many good ones these days hey. Everything's bullits and boobs.(sigh)

Kay, I love your comment. So much truth behind it. Would you adopt me?

It was a beautiful day in Ontonagon. Saw the Pileated woodpecker, finally today, and heard loons on the big lake. Had a yooper friend fill us with information today; didn't know that black bears had bad eyesight and judged everything by smell and hearing. Also found out that the copper refinery in White Pine might be taken over by the Chinese. Put up a sign in our yard today that reads; "Support UP Mining". I'm all for it if they can do it in a responsible way. Feed the poor and enrich some lives.

Hollidays---A while back your woodpecker was talked about and I asked someone to give me the true pronunciation of that birds name. I've heard pill-e-ated, pie-leeted and a few more. Last time no one answered. Someone must know!! Thanks

I found a site that might help you out:

Bird Name Pronunciations

Towards the bottom of that page is our friend, the Pileated:

PILEATED (Woodpecker) - PIE-lee-ay-tid, PILL-ee-ay-tid (having a pileus or cap). This and the next two are commonly pronounced as the two alternate versions listed from the dictionary. If it bothers you when people say it differently than you do, lighten up. They're just birds, for goodness sakes, and THEY don't care what you call them.

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 - 10:35 pm:

Capt. that's true. Today I looked up the flower I plan to plant...the clematis. Some pronounce it CLIM-atis and some call it cli-MATIS. Well it can be said either way.So there! ha-ha they don't care either. And Janie T. I think I could find room for you in my brood. It's just that you'd be a year older than my oldest. How would you feel about being the bossy older sister? (giggle)

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Thursday, June 30, 2011 - 04:55 am: is a fun pronunciation website.

You can even hear the word using different accents and languages...under Voice:

By Hollidays (Hollybranches) on Thursday, June 30, 2011 - 07:15 am:

It is "pie-liated".
