Which VFW post is named in today's slideshow?

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 - 08:00 am:

Good morning! It's a dreary day here today, but supposed to turn out nice later one.

I have a friend who is dying of cancer. If you could please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers, I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

When I posted that, the review wasn't there. I just have to say how calming the Alberta picture is. I need that today.

The Alberta picture is beautiful and calming. I'm sorry to hear about your friend, Deb. My thoughts and prayers are with you, her, and her family. Take care!

I'm glad weather is looking up in Minnesota! We're supposed to have heavy rain for the next three days, so much so, that we are under a Flood Watch, here in mid-Michigan. I've had more than enough of this wet stuff. We had ping pong sized hail on Sunday, with winds strong enough to knock down large limbs on our trees, one of which knocked down the basketball hoop. Charter managed to get the severe thunderstorm warning out, just as the first balls of hail started to hit our aluminum siding. Our dogs went nuts with the noise. We are so lucky, though, compared to Missouri and Oklahoma, Texas, Minnesota, and Kansas. My thoughts and prayers go out to all who were affected by those severe storms!

And here we sit outside of Houston in a severe drought and expecting a very uncomfortably humid high of 95 today!!

We need some of that rain here, just without the severe aspect of it.

Good photos.

Here in SE-MI, the rain is pretty intense right now. I believe Deb mentioned an ark earlier this week and I would like to put down a deposit on a cabin. Something with a window view.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 - 04:19 pm:

Yea I hear they are going pretty cheap Alex, the only catch is that you have to be part of the "cleanup crew" while onboard.....

By Hollidays (Hollybranches) on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 - 05:00 pm:

Light frost last night but everything survived. Got cooler temps but the sun is shining.
We've got the state of Michigan staying in Silver City. They're doing a lamprey eel study going on. They are dirty rotten scavengers.

Thank you Donna, jbuck and Marianne. No news on my friend yet. No news is good news. Thank you guys for the prayers. These friends ARE from the UP!!

Mikie, it's my 2nd bird and a half!! I think Marianne has one too? Well, I know somebody does!

Deb, I'm with you about praying for our friend's family. They're such a nice family & it just doesn't seem fair that this has to happen to them or anyone for that matter. He hasn't even had time to enjoy his retirement.Cancer is so terrible, wish they would find a cure for all of it.But it's too late for our friend. It's heartbraking to hear such sad news. God be with all of them at this sad & difficult time. Everyone's prayers would be appreciated.

Amen to that Cotton.

By Dunerat (Dunerat) on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 - 11:06 pm:

Deb, your friend and his family are in our prayers...as well as you. May God's peace comfort you all.

34 years ago when I was 18 years old, I lost my mom Betty Voulle Paulson to a horrible car accident, she asked me to drive me up to the business so she could do the books and come home with dad (grampa Norm) I was 18 and had plans. She stopped to get gas and the car was in reverse and ran her over, can't forgive myself, feeling sick tonight even after 34 years! I can't let it go, Im sorry mom, I love you!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Thursday, May 26, 2011 - 06:19 am:

I am so sorry to hear that, Uncle Chuck! I have tears in my eyes as I write this. I know she forgave you long ago, and she is in Heaven, watching over you. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Take care!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, May 26, 2011 - 06:37 am:

Uncle Chuck....sending you my sincere, heartfelt feelings to you.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Thursday, May 26, 2011 - 06:47 am:

Uncle Chuck--What you have written reminds me of a verse by
John Greenleaf Whittier: It goes something like this --Of the sad
words of song and pen, the saddest are these, "It might have been."
We all wish we could change the way we did some things in the
past. Sadly, we can't, but we can learn from the mistakes we have
made. You are truly sorry, you have been forgiven, and you are a
sadder but wiser man. Perhaps your cautionary tale will prevent
someone else from making a similar tragic choice.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, May 26, 2011 - 07:03 am:

Uncle Chuck, you are not alone in your feelings. The day my dad suffered his traumatic head injury, he was in the bucket of the skid loader with my oldest brother driving. Dad got off, slipped on ice and fell hitting his head. He died from this injury a year later, but til his death he was not healthy in anything with his mental capabilities. My brother to this day, 22 years later, still feels so responsible for this. Don still has so many "what if's" in his mind on how he should have prevented this accident. Like your situation it was a unfortunate thing that happened, and because it involved a loved one it's something never easy to deal with. Take care my friend!

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Thursday, May 26, 2011 - 07:15 am:

Uncle Chuck,
What a heart breaking situation and outcome to the decisions made by you & your Mom that day. We may never know the full implications of our actions, right and wrong. We read here that we have friends who are suffering terribly from cancer. Perhaps your Mom was spared that ordeal. We don't know (on this side anyway) what the reasons are for what happened that day. But please know our Lord does not want you to hold this pain in your heart forever. He forgives you, your Mom forgives you (its true it IS a better place), and i'm sure your family has forgiven you. Please forgive yourself. Remember your Mom by the fun and laughter and the blessing she was to your life, not by sadness and guilt. She would never want that. I'm praying for peace in your heart and only joy when you think of your Mom. Our Lord's blessings.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, May 26, 2011 - 07:39 am:

Oh Uncle Chuck, that's so sad. I've lived with so many "what ifs" in my life. But you can't go back. And you can't continue to blame yourself. You know that your mom is probably happier than you are right now. She's home. You really have to learn to forgive yourself the way God forgives us everything. I've made many mistakes in my life, so I'm happy we have a loving God who is so forgiving. But in your case UC, I don't think there's anything to forgive. You were 18. I'm sure you had something to do, and if she would have continued to ask you, I'm sure you would have done it for her. Maybe it would have been you had you gone, but He didn't want you. He wanted your mom. My grandpa always said that your little black book is written when you're born. If she hadn't died from that that day, it would have been something else. It was her day to go, UC. You have to remember that and forgive yourself. You're a great guy!!!

By Diana P. (Diana) on Thursday, May 26, 2011 - 09:03 am:

Dear Uncle Chuck,
I was in tears reading your post this morning. Your choice of occupation shows you to be a very caring person who wants to help others. You have often offered your assistance to people in need on this site. I would encourage you to please please seek professional counseling to help you deal with this tragedy. Your mom's death was an accident ... it was not caused by you.
Peace be with you. :)

By Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck) on Thursday, May 26, 2011 - 12:00 pm:

THANK YOU ALL!
