Yesterday the Keweenaw ATV Club set up tents and tables at a spot the Pasty Cam visited 10 years ago, the Vansville Bar. Edie and I dropped by at about lunch time to enjoy some brats and the mellow sounds of Singing Sheriff Ron and his musical posse. ATV riders poured in - and so did a little rain - but it didn't dampen the spirits of this weekend crowd, as the club raised money for its work to help extend and enhance the trails from Keweenaw Point to the Houghton County line.
A memory from the early months of the Pasty Cam, way back in 1998, shows the future "Pasty Girl" (our daughter Becky) covered in mud from a ride with Sheriff Ron's daughter Nancy (looking away from the camera). Becky and I had some fun times on a "Blaster" when she was about 10 years old, exploring behind the Cliffs - which you can see across the highway in today's top photo.
How time flies when you're having fun! That was half a lifetime ago for these girls, and now they have families of their own. But we'll always remember those times cruising through the woods, off the beaten path, and the excitement of exploring Michigan's beautiful upper-Upper Peninsula.
Wishing you a safe and happy Memorial Day. Have a good week :o)
