Carla and Jeremy Tepaske recently made a trek to the Michigan/Wisconsin border and did a bit of exploring. They found plenty of water flowing, to share with us here today. The first shot is of the Upper Superior Falls and the second one is the Lower Superior Falls, which make a nice drop into a pool of deep blue in the river below. In the third shot, the same hue of blue is coloring the Montreal River, as it flows amongst some fairly high cliffs. Then the next photo shows the route the river takes right down to the shores of Gitche Gumee, where the two become one.

That last photo, taken by Carla, is typical of kids on the Big Lake's edge. Just itching to get their feet wet, tempting the waves, as they roll in and recede back out each time. Can't you just hear those Superior stones rolling as the water pulls them back and forth with the rhythm of each swell? It doesn't get much better than playing on the shores of Lake Superior.

When we were in Mackinaw City one weekend, we woke up real early and set up the movie camera on the tripod and just let it run as the sun was coming up. That way we can watch it every now and then, very relaxing. ;O)

Did the same thing in Oscoda on the beach with the waves coming in as the sun was coming up.

This is the main reason I touch into pasty cam. The stunning photos of the talented amature folks. Plus Mary's heartfelt words that go with them. So special. Makes my day. Thank you all.

I agree, Kay. And if you love the lake and want to see what she's up to, check out Eric Jackson's web cam. (A link on Sharon Smiths site) I check it daily for my lake fix. Thanks for that, Eric!! and Pasty!!

Hollidays, thanks for the great pics of Bonanza Fall! I still refer to them as the Greenwood Falls which is what they used to be called by all the locals - and a favorite swimming hole of the kids back when. I suspect someone arbitrarily changed their name to Bonanza the same way that Carp Lake became Lake of the Clouds, Little Carp Lake became Mirror Lake, and the town of Iron River became Silver City for a second time in its life - to pique the interest of tourists.

And I'm drooling looking at those rocks...there has to be an agate in there someplace....

By James Alain (Charlevoix) on Friday, May 27, 2011 - 10:47 pm:

You missed Interstate Falls (known as Peterson Falls on the Wisconsin side), on the Montreal River about a half mile north of US 2....easily accessed from the Wisc side near Hurley. And perchance anyone's interested, the western tip of that gravel bar in pic #4 is the westernmost point in the U.P.

Sarah P...any chance you could direct me to this place you're renting this summer? I'll want to check out something like that next summer. Sure would appreciate any help.
