Donna MacIntosh was outside in the Baraga area last week and looking UP. Sure glad she was doing both, because she brought back these wonderful photos of spring growth beginning, to share with us all. I’m going to leave it up to some of our more knowledgeable “tree” folks, to identify what type of leaves these beautiful buds are going to become.
Donna’s last two photos show a tree oddity that she found. She said it looked like the branch was in an odd position, parallel to the tree trunk, so she zoomed in for a closer look, to find that the branch actually grew outwards and then right back into the trunk. Pretty neat discovery.

It really is a splendid time of year here in the Keweenaw with everything coming back to life again, so make sure you get out there and experience some of it in person. You’ll be glad you did.

Isn't it amazing how all of a sudden you will look outside, and all of the trees seem to be budding, when just the day before you didn't notice it? I just love spring (when we actually get it, lol)!!!

Thanks for the great pictures to start the day!

One day it's gray tree limbs and the next it's like a fine fuzz across the horizon.

And then it's bug season.

...love the deep blue skies too! I almost forgot what they looked like. This has been a very cloudy, rainy May so far around here.

Those would be red maples. :)

That first shot looks like little fireworks on those branches. Very cool.

I have purple and yellow pansies where I never saw them before and never planted any. They sure are cute.

mickill, they are my favorite too.I have tried to grow them over the past 50 yrs but for some reason I don't think they like the sunny south(Rossville,Ga).I don't really blame them.

I love hollyhocks too. They grow in Salisbury Location outside of
Ishpeming. Every summer I enjoy looking at them while I am in the
UP. I've never seen them in Toronto and I don't remember seeing
them in the Detroit area while I was growing up. Nice to hear from
you, Fran.
