Thanks for all who are sending photos of their Dad for our Father's Day Pasty Cameo coming up next month. One such portrait arrived just in time for the subject's 100th Birthday. Joy Ziemnick emailed it along with this note:

Our father, Art Wickstrom, was born 5/16/1911, one of 13 children, co-owner/butcher of Wickstrom's Meats and Groceries on Pine St., Calumet. The store closed around 1967. Dad was probably in his 20's when this photo was taken - delivering meats and groceries to customers.

He is still very active (though legally blind) and often is seen walking around the Laurium Senior Housing block. Sharp mind and full of stories that we never tire listening to.

There is definitely a connection to long lives and the U.P.!

Happy birthday Art, and a pinch to grow a inch. I remember when you would deliver groceries to my grand parents in North Tamarack, boy that was a while ago. We had the slaughter house on 5th street and we also sold you meat for your market, and you always tried to make me talk Croation to you. Jim

I still miss going to Wickstrom's Market for Mom, to order "2 chicks quartered," and "omburjay" (hamburger in our French! (Wouldn't Mrs. Steck get a kick out of that one!)

Hey Jim. You mentioned a slaughter house on 5th street, do you remember a restaurant at the end of 5th street called Abransons? It was right before Pine street. I think it was called Skufkas at one time.

Happy Day Mr. Wickstrom! Congratulations on the 100 year milestone. I'm sure the livin' right in God's Country has been a factor in your longevity. Many blessings to you and your family.

Hey Mickell Mouse, Skufkas's was a good place to eat, I remember the burgers being wrapped in a knapkin, I miss eating there.

TO JIM MIHELICH. Thank You for responding to my question but, you do not remember a resturant after Skufkas's, called Abramsons?

I remember as a kid and as an adult, my mom always wrapping her sandwiches in a napkin, especially a hamburger and when she ate a hot dog. I also remember my grandmother always putting 'oleo' on all sandwiches.

A big thank-you to everyone who gave a birthday greeting to our Dad, whether on this forum or in person or in a card. The blessings have been overflowing. Dad is a kind, contented, loving father and we sure have been blessed to see him live fully and well for these great many years.

mickell mouse, I don't recall the resturant but the name kind of rings a bell. It must of been on the corner across from the old CO-OP store. By the way whats your name?

TO JIM; The restaurant, Abramsons, was across the street, 5th street, from Erkillas garage. My mom told me her parents bought the restaurant from Skufskas'

My grandparents, my moms parents, owned the restaurant when my mom was growing up. Her name was Jean Abramson and she gratuated fron Calumet High in 1951. My grandmothers maiden is Pakkola.

As for me, My name is Michele, that is Michelle with one 'L', not Micheal as some kept calling me.
