Folks around the Keweenaw have unique items decorating their property, like this train we spotted while driving along the Paradise Road, near Chassell. Pretty neat with the railroad tracks right there in the yard and several small railroad items displayed together there, just like a miniature train. When we stopped to take this photo, I couldn't help but think about how much fun my grandkids would have, riding off on this train to places only their imaginations can take them. How fun!

The second shot was taken behind our house. That's the parking lot that separates our yard from a portion of Torch Lake. Those silly ducks are swimming in the mud puddle at the middle of the parking lot, instead of enjoying the lake, just a few yards away. Maybe they don't like to swim in water over their heads? ;->

Wow! I'm the first to post! OH has seen MUCH rain and puddles like that are all over the place! Flooding, etc. as well! I;ve seen ducks doing the same thing. The ducks in the above picture don't know how good they've got it! :-) The train was pretty slick. I thought it was Lake Linden at first. Speaking of rain, I'm heading to Jacksonville, FL for the week! My brother's gettin' married. "Sadly", I have to go! 85 and sunny today! Can't wait to see it!

Good morning, maybe they are "ducking" the large waves on the big lake.

That is odd that the ducks are not in the lake. They also look very content. What are you spiking the water with, Mary?
I would also like to be your husband when you say; "Get out there and mow that lawn" :-)

Appearently you haven't seen their yard in the summer time, Alex. What do you think happens after all those ducks visit; can you say "natural" fertiliser?? ;-)

I like the three clothes pins in the last photo. It is great to know there is no ban in the U.P. about hanging ones clothes out to air dry.

Maybe the puddle water is way warmer than the lake!

Mary, that train car belongs to our family friend, Bud. He was my father's friend from childhood. My dad was Jack Stevens. Jack had a train car like Bud's and it is still in the family at Jack's home on the Houghton Canal. Jack bought his train car from the Copper Range Railroad company when they closed down the roundhouse that used to be in Houghton where the Kestner Park is now located. The little inspector's car was $25.00. It was the steel rail, all 1000' feet of it that was pricey.
The train goes up and down the track when visitors want a ride.... toot toot, chugga chugga, toot toot!

It seems the ducks have the same idea here in Green Bay. There was a large puddle in a field by our house close to Lombardi Ave where I had been seeing 4 Mallards paddling around every day til it dried up (finally). I'm thinking it's warmer and calmer than the Fox River...? Any duck experts out there?
