Recently, a lifelong Yooper and Hubbell resident, Elaine Monette, had a dream trip to watch her favorite hockey team play live in the Joe Louis Arena. Her daughter Kathy sent us the photos of this exciting event in her Mother's life, along with the following note about it:

"The story is that mom is a huge Red Wings fan who never misses watching a game. I'm amazed at how much she knows about the players, announcers and exactly what hockey is all about. Never in her wildest dreams did she imagine going to an actual game; however, my sister, Karen, her husband, Jim and their daughter and son-in-law, Jodi and Matt Davis, decided that mom/gramma had to see a Red Wings game, so for Christmas this year, they bought her a ticket to the Red Wing vs San Jose Sharks game and a Red Wings jersey to wear to the game. The trip was awesome! They ate in the Hockeytown Café and enjoyed the game, even though the Wings lost that one. Jodi made the sign for her gramma that said - "My 1st Wings Game - Only Took 80 Years!!! She waved the sign in the air and the camera man took mom's picture and up it went on the Jumbotron at the arena! It just doesn't get any better than that!"

What a heartwarming story and I'm sure something that Elaine will never forget. I'd even venture to say that she's probably still walking on "cloud nine" from the experience of seeing a game in person. Thanks for sharing the story, it's nice to see Yooper dreams come true!

Edie will love today's Pasty Cam. She is a big fan, too, the only lady I know who takes notes while she watches the Red Wings play. We had a fun time at Joe Lewis Arena a few years ago, the only time we've ever gone. It had to be about 2004, because Brett Hull was still on the Wings at the time.

Call us jealous here! We've never been to The Joe either but we sure don't miss a game on TV! Living near Seattle, WA, well, it's kind of a drive to get to see a game at The Joe but we HAVE seen the Wings in Vancouver, Phoenix, San Jose, and L.A. One of these years, we'll do the kind of thing Elaine got to do this year! Sounds like a dream come true for us transplanted Wings fans!

Go WINGS!!

What a great story. It reminds me of my mom, who was a great Tigers fan. For Mother's Day I would get us tickets for a game, and she loved going to Tigers Stadium. Me too! I really miss both Tigers Stadium and the old Olympia.

Elaine I am so happy for you. That was awsome. We lived down the street from Elaine so we knew her well. Way to go.

Wonderful for Elaine! Having dreams keeps one going as we age. But even better is seeing these dreams fulfilled! That's why I rented a cabin last fall at Lac La Belle. And why I drove to Texas a couple years ago for a few weeks, by myself. Go Elaine!
