Hmmm - no Early Birds for the too early worms, Marianne!

OK, I just posted this on yesterday's page, not realizing Thursday's was not up yet! I did see your comment Marianne. So . . . did anyone hear on this morning's newscast about Obama coming to Marquette and something to do with the Granite Island lighthouse and internet for the first time ever in some Keweenaw town? I wondered what town that was?

Granite Island webcams do not appear to be working, sorta like 0bama....lol

I listened to Obama's entire speech (it was streamed live on wluc tv 6), and there was no mention of Granite Island. He mentioned visiting a NMU distance learning lab, where the professor connected a high school in Negaunee with one in Big Bay, but there was no mention of any lighthouses. He stopped at a restaurant in downtown Marquette to get a sandwich and some chocolate candy for his daughters. Now, he is apparently headed straight back to Sawyer to depart on Air Force One, so I doubt there was any way he had time to go to Granite Island lighthouse. His scheduled departure is around 3 pm, but it looks like he's in a hurry to leave, possibly because of the cold, or possibly because of the Egypt situation, or both.

Air Force One is wheels up & out of here. It took off heading north, so presumably he'll see Lake Superior if he looks. And, he was only on the ground for about 3 hours.

It was a great speech! He was trying to promote more internet business for the struggling companies. Getz's department store had started internet orders and are doing so well that they have hired more people. He also stated what a beautiful place we have and called us "Yoopers". Sure made me proud to be living here and proud to have him as a president.

I just found out today that Granite Island was used as a hop for the wireless internet service from NMU to Big Bay school. Sometimes the straight path takes a lot of corners, right Charlie.
