Gee what a quiet day in PastyLand!
I have a challenge for our PastyCam veterans and wizards.

I have spent considerable time today in a thus far futile search for a picture that I'm sure I've seen here of a "cold entrance" with the door open, revealing a wall of snow, such the "cold entrance" described here:

Quote:

"… we had a blizzard that drifted snow over the doors up on the roof. We had a cold entrance that I filled with shoveled snow, before you could get out of the house. Once I had the walk cleared, I had to shovel out the cold entrance. worse than shoveling down the snow banks!"

and here:

By Joe Finn, Rhinelander, Wi on Thursday, January 29, 2004 - 10:30 am:

"… A cold entrance is an unheated room attached to the entrance of a U.P. house. Usually the back door. It is used to store enough dry wood to get the fire started. Probably the most use was when you came home from playing in the snow, you did not enter the house without your mother brooming all the snow off your clothes. The door opened inward so you could get out after a blizzard."

There are days when I sure wish this forum was based on a good relational database, for ease of searching. (To be really effective, that would probably require a careful choice of keywords to be associated with each image as well.)

I am usually able to find almost any snippet of message text that has ever appeared in this forum — it's usually all about using the right search term — with either Google or the more limited DISCUS keyword search; but not so for pictures, I find it virtually impossible to retrieve a particular picture from Cam Notes, What's UP or the vast PastyCam photo galleries.

I have had the same problem too, FRNash. Maybe it's too cold to find the "cold entrance".

Just checked the bridge cam and it is a beautiful view in the evening. Almost as soft and colorful as a beautiful Monet painting. I've seen some good photos lately of that bridge that's impressed me. Keep warm folks, it's suppose to be doozy tonight.

Heard a little more detail on our local news this a.m. about Obama's visit to Marquette. Something about the Granite Island lighthouse and the internet being brought to a Keweenaw Peninsula town for the first time. Anyone know what that's all about and what town it is?

According to WLUCTV 6, http://www.uppermichiganssource.com/news/story.aspx?id=579165

Obama is there to taut Northern Michigan University's 4G WiFi access, that includes off campus areas, in something like (5 mile?) radius, so students can work from home, etc. He is going to visit a lab on campus, I believe, and a Marquette business that is using the Internet access. He is giving an invitation-only address at their dome. Apparently a few hundred invitations went out to students, and I don't know if others were invited, or not. But, all in all, many people are very disappointed that there will be no public access, to listen to him, or apparently to even see him. There are possibly only pool cameras, but TV6 plans to broadcast his address in its entirety to their broadcasting area.
