When Joe Kirkish sent today's photos, I was quite surprised to see open waters this time of year on the shores of Lake Superior this far north. So was he, as he explains here below:

I happened to plow knee deep in to our cottage on Lake Superior (near Copper Harbor) just to check it out after the last storm. Surprised to see that the water was still open (well, I guess that's part of the summer warming), so the annual pre-freeze left these icicles along the rocks - really stunning when the sun glints off them. With more snow & cold, they'll be soon gone, I suppose - nice to get there at just the right time.

I agree... very nice that Joe was able to capture these icicle scenes looking like glass sculptures and even nicer that he shared them with all of us. Thanks, Joe!
