This coming Saturday is the annual Ski for the Heart of our Community event at the Swedetown Ski Trails in Calumet. Skiers and snowshoers alike, have been collecting donations from friends and relatives in anticipation of the number of kilometers they'll cover on the trails, between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The donations will benefit the Omega House and Copper Island Cross Country Ski Club, so it's for a good cause, not to mention the good it will do your heart if you get out there on the trails, too. A minimum donation of $10, includes your ski pass for the day and food to help fuel you, so you can rack up the kilometers. A $50 donation, enters you in the prize drawings. If you're going to be in the area and would like to join in the festivities, you can call 906-337-5700 for more information. Fun, food and prizes, all while benefiting a couple of good causes...sounds like a win-win situation for all involved.

Great pictures of the U.P. winter wonderland. Nothing like a clear blue winter day in the U.P.

If you were wondering why the Pasty Cam was on late this morning, your frozen webmaster was up in the top of Quincy Mine until well after our traditional 8am deadline. We relay broadband Internet through this high structure in the Keweenaw, on up to Calumet, Horace Greeley, Brockway Mountain, Copper Harbor and points beyond. A failing piece of equipment was affecting our speeds here in the Peninsula, and we finally replaced it this morning.
Looking out the north-east facing windows of the Mine building, I can see the Calumet water towers above, 8.75 miles away. Pasty Central and Pasty.NET certainly have friends in high places :o)

Speaking of wireless communication, isn't the President's visit to Marquette today to promote that very thing?

Gee Charlie, your fingers must be frozen solid. You had to pick a nice cold day to do that work. Better have a nice cup of cocoa to help thaw out.
