If you haven't been to the Swedetown trails skiing, then we have some photos today to show you what you're missing. First, Dottie Abe shows us the entrance sign, accompanied by some snow covered pine trees and if you're thinking they look beautiful, just wait until you get on the trails. That's just what we're doing with the next three photos from Shannon Koivisto. She snapped a number of photos as she skied along and certainly captured the beauty of the snowy trees beside the trails. I think Shannon's first photo (actually the second on this page), is my favorite, with the snow clinging to the tree trunks like that, it looks like a sugar-coated scene out of a fairytale.
Now grab your skis and head over to Calumet Township for some fresh air and beauty!

I really love that second photo. It makes winter all worth while.

Those are all great winter photos, thank you! My backyard looked like the third or the fourth photo yesterday morning, here in mid-Michigan. But, I'm with Theresa, the second photo is gorgeous!

I'm with Theresa. I really love that 2nd photo! It takes your breath away!!
Absolutly fantastic! My first impression of photo two was as an abstract painting!!! I should be so good an artist to paint that image. Thank you ladies.

Beautiful pictures!! Swedetown trails are great. Such solitude, peace, quiet and beauty.

Donna, "White Gold"? That's interesting, considering the way the weather prognosticators in the Ohio Valley describe approaching snows, it's known as "White Death", so everybody runs out and buys up all the bread and milk.;)

The Swedetown trails were in excellent shape today. I was lucky enough to ski on my lunch break. The trees were not quite as covered with snow as shown on the photos above, but still very picturesque. Thanks for sharing the photos, Shan.

There is a radio station in SE Michigan here that refers to any measurable snowfall during their morning drive time show as a "winter survival situation".

I have a story to tell about the Swedetown Trails. My husband and I skied on the trails for many years, and on Sunday Jan.4,2004 we skied there for the last time together. He passed away suddenly on Monday, Jan. 5, 2004. Now, in memory of their father, his children ski there as often as they can.

Oh, my, Maria, what sad news. That must have been difficult. But what a good memory you and your family have in your connection to the Swedetown Trails.

That second picture, almost, looks like it is upside down.

Photo #2 is incredible. Great photo. The "unusual tracks" are made by the skate-skiers. I usually poke along in the parallel tracks doing the "traditional" ski methods.

Yep...White Gold....when the area depends on tourists, who are drawn to snowmobile, ski, etc....Snow IS the draw!

Also known as "snocane", the white powder that's addictive to snowmobilers.

And then there are people like me, who far prefer the UP in the all too brief summer season! I'm content to look at the beautiful snowy pictures here on Pasty.com. :-)
