Judy Byykkonen must really have a green thumb or maybe during the winter months it's called a white thumb. Either way, her first photo sure looks like there are some flowers growing in the midst of the cold Keweenaw winter, but when we take a closer look in the second shot, it seems to be some bright yellow leaves. I'm thinking some type of weed, but a hardy one, like the greenery standing tall along with it. Kind of nice to have that illusion of flowers in the midst of winter, though.
That's not all that Judy found growing where it normally doesn't, her third photo shows what resembles giant cotton on a pine tree, looking like it's ready to be plucked off the branch. It amazes me that the branches can hold the weight of that much snow. But then, the Keweenaw is an amazing place! ;->

That is strange, could it be artificial?

What would pollinate those flowers this time of year? Maybe just wind?

I saw something odd as well, I honestly saw a Robin yesterday at my feeder.

The yellow flowers look like orchids to me.

Yes they are all plastic. Artificial yellow orchids and a frond of some kind. But plastic none the less.

Yes these are orchids and be advised orchids are not just a tropical , they grow in the wild in cold regions such as Alaska.

The Calumet theater roof is going backward in the voting. Last week it was no. 16. For one day it hit 15 and is now at 17. We really need that theater. Spring thaws are not going to help that roof. Please vote--daily, and more if you have several computers.

I don't uderstand. I can vote every 61 minutes. I do this from work or home. Doesn't this work for others? If we're going to win we have to vote. Charlie, Mary, am I right about the voting?

VOTE, VOTE, VOTE.....we can't lose the Calumet Theatre....there is no building comparable to that beautiful place. It's so gorgeous...and the history is amazing....the entertainment is top notch, the plays and musicals are phenomenal by our local folk, the entertainment brought in from other areas is ALWAYS a winner! If you haven't attended anything at the Theatre...YOU ARE MISSING OUT!!!

PLEASE VOTE!!! Come on Pasty Peeps....we CAN do this...we've done it before, lets do it again! Fire up...VOTE!!! THE POWER OF THE PASTY!!!

Donna and all, I have tried for 2 days to vote and when I sign in there are no words to type. I had to text my vote in today. Do we have a fix for that do we know?

Norma...I don't know...I know voting on that site is not always a pleasant experience. I wish it was much easier....

When we still lived downstate, I was so tired of one particular winter, that I took a bunch of 1.00 store flowers and put them in a pot and sat them on the table on the patio. Everytime I looked, it made me feel a little better. ;O)

Whether the flower is artificial or real it is a beautiful photo. Thanks Judy for all three. I like flowers in the winter. I brought my hibiscus inside late fall and just before Christmas it bloomed. I was so surprise and extremely happy.

Interesting to hear that I'm not the only one who's unable to vote. For months I haven't been able to vote as it's all Greek to me. Been complaing all along. Personally I think the whole thing is a gimmic just playing people for nothing. Haven't worked it out since we were voting for animal rescue places. Just a rack for publicity!!!!!!!!!

I can tell when my vote is complete because I hear the sound of a can of pop opening and pouring into a glass. I voted twice today; once this morning and again just now. I also voted by texting from my cell.

I've never been able to vote twice for the Calumet Theater or Copper Harbor in one day.
