This trio of friends made a trek through the snow to the Hungarian Falls in the Tamarack City/Hubbell area recently. That's Amy Cloutier and her two and four-legged buddies with her, exploring around the falls. Parts of the falls are frozen solid and snow covered, like the first and second shots, but then the last two pictures show sections of running water. That third photo looks like it could have been frozen over recently and perhaps the temps warmed up just enough to break it loose and start it gushing like that. The last photo shows it flowing at a calmer pace. What an enchanting place to visit in the midst of winter.

Looks like everyone had a good time out the great outdoors!

I saw the Hungarian Falls once during the winter covered like todays pictures.
In 1948 as a member of the "busy needles" 4-H club in Hubbell we were hopped up for a trip to another club up near Oneco. Little did we know that we were going to walk there in the middle of winter. As we set out to join the other group we headed up to the railroad 3rd track and walked out to the hill that goes up along side of the Hungarian Falls. Most of the trip was with snow up to our rear ends and must have taken the 12 of us hours as we walked along the trail and up past the falls to the Kempinnen, sp. farm where we had a small meeting and then proceeded to play basketball out in the barn with near freezing temperatures. We all hated the thought of the downhill return trip home and were saved of that trek when the horses and buggy were pulled out and transported us back to our warm homes. Quite different than todays kids with the cell phones, i-pods, i-phones, i-pads, computers all tucked away in their cozy rooms.

Eddy...another fond memory shared. Can just picture your adventure...thanks.

Eddy, do you remember horse and sleigh going through Hubbell when we were kids? Also was there a lady named Daisy who wore gym shoes and lived on a farm up the hill from Hubbell. My mom had a sleigh that was like a baby buggy. When we moved it was given away. Wish I had it now for my grandkids. We bought a buggy when my oldest daughter was born. The grandkids have gotten to ride in it as babies. Paid as much for it as the junkers that I was driving at the time. I spent a lot of time with my buddy Mike at the bluff when we were kids. Andrea the Irish dancer fell off the rock crossing the Hungarian creek when she was young. I find the falls very peaceful and one of my favorite places to spend time.

Hey, you two Hubbell guys. I was there too. Such fun we had in the snow as kids. We live in Colrado now and do not get much snow where we live. That I do not mind now but it was great in Hubbell. Eddy loved your last sentence!!! Do you think they missed alot by sitting in their cosy warm houses??????? Theresa Former Yooper and Hubbellight.

Or the kids of 'nowadays' have all that electronic stuff-stuffed, in thier coats and pockets. ;O(

Amy is a whiz with a camera. She went to school at the same time as my nephews. She's just a love. She has done some of the most phenomenal stuff with her pictures/computers/slideshows, you wouldn't believe....she is a VERY talented young lady, who will go far.
