Michele Mukavetz was recently in the Marquette area and snapped a few pictures of the breakwall and harbor light, all dressed in white. The two different angles she took the photos from, present a great view of the icy coating all along, right out to and surrounding the base of the light at the end. Lake Superior was nice and quiet that day, but the skies look a bit foreboding, like perhaps something was beginning to stir around up there for some wintry weather to follow. Look at the streaks coming from the clouds... isn't that a sign of snow or rain off in the distance?

I am in need of a quiet harbor.

By Therese (Therese) on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 - 07:10 am:

I prefer to think of them as shafts of sunlight falling through the chill air separated by shadows cast by clouds. I think they are called 'crepuscular rays'. A peace-filled scene; thanks for sharing it.

Nice! Was this taken at Presque Isle? I don't recall the breakwall being angled like that.

What a beautiful and peaceful scene.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 - 08:26 am:

Very nice! I could use some peace and quiet about now. I'd like it on a nice, warm, sandy beach though.

Have a great day. This pictures are great!

Gorgeous photos! I walked out to the end of that breakwall many times (during the summer) when I lived up there. And yes Alex, this is Upper Harbor right by the entrance to Presque Isle Park.

Beautiful scenes but they make me shudder...brrr. Deb S., I agree with you, when it comes to a craving for peace and quiet, I prefer the warm sandy beach scene.;)

Lovely pictures! Thank you!

It looks like a walk on that icy breakwater would result in quick "ker-plunk" right into the frigid waters.

Wish I was there right now! I miss my old college town! Thanks for the great photos!

I have a photo of this site on my wall at home, and every Northern Michigan University student is very familiar with this area. When I visit Marquette, it is one of the places that I go to sit and just enjoy looking at my favorite Great Lake.

Ah yes. That reminds me of whiling away the evening watching the submarine races at sunset point...

Deb, you could come to the Siesta Key beach here in Sarasota. It's a nice beach but can't say right now that it's a warm one. Was in the low 40's this morning when we woke. I woke my winter coat that I wore leaving Michigan. I know, I shouldn't be complaining!!!!LOL
