Winter tourism here in the Keweenaw is big for the area businesses, so they welcome the snowfall we've been getting for the last few days and so do folks like Chris Gariepy, who enjoy getting out on their snowmobiles for a ride. Chris snapped a few shots to share with us from a recent ride, where he found a few "untouched" trails and couldn't wait to make some tracks there. According to Chris, the day was filled with jumping, climbing and carving it up. All in a day's fun for any snowmobile enthusiast.

The first photo reminds me of a winters Star Wars production. What a nice looking outfit the red one is. The orange one is not bad either! Looks like lots of fun. I would be happy just to be able to don skis and go out to play! :(

My idea of a great time too. Sure looks like there is plenty of snow UP there, despite the couple reports posted here of no snow.

By Hollidays (Hollybranches) on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 - 07:06 am:

The UP is a big place. Not everyone has the weather that the Keweenaw has. We do have snow, only 6 inches left and trails aren't too good.

That makes a huge difference, you never specified the area you were referring to.

Yes you did, the Porkies, my bad! Carry on.

I just am not sure of these new fangled futuristic looking sleds. I like when Ski-Doo was yellow (1971 Nordic 399). I would like any of them if I could get out right now and go ride.

My hips hurt just lookin at those rockets! Love riding em, but they kill me and I can barely walk when I get off of them, even when I was a young man my hips won't take it. Give me a warm 4x4 truck anytime! lol

My first memories riding a snowmobile was on a Scorpion Whip when I cleared a snowbank by about 8 feet in the air; last time my dad ever let me back on that machine.....

I can see I'm having computer issues this morning; I keep double posting on both pages!!

Ah, snowmobiling time again. Oh, and Happy Birthday to my Wife Kathy, today.

My dad had a 1975 Scorpion Whip. What a heavy machine! He has some wild rides on it and lived to tell about it.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 - 10:30 pm:

Grace,
Seems like ours was around a 74 or 75 as well; Dark blue coloured with a black seat. It might have been a heavy machine, but that thing would keep up with anything made today. He also had a red Scorpion Stinger as well, but I don't remember that one except from photos.
