The final month of 2010 has come to an end, so we take this day to hold in our memory, those that have left us too soon. This month we remember:

The name of Geraldine Doyle may not be recognized, but the posters that she inspired have appeared on these pages before. This month her family announced that Geraldine passed away at the age of 86, one of the original Rosie the Riveters.

Remembering my brother Dave who would have been 51 today. Cancer took him from us the day after his birthday, January 1, 2002. We still miss him.

Remembering my dad, Ben Durocher, who passed away 2 years ago this month. We still miss him so much:(

Remembering our parents Norman and Helen Pooley, Ed and Sophie Kuusisto, Aunt Lyle Pooley, Our sister in law and dear friend Phyllis Kuusisto, Karen Kuusisto, Janet Trasti, our good buddy Nitz Kumpula, our nephew the "Chief" Churchill, our niece Bailey Hartmann, our brother in law and friend Wayne Hartmann, and our dear sweet baby girl Annie Kuusisto. We love and miss you all so much.

In memory of Mrs. Josephine Kangas Raisanen who lived a long and rich life. She was the second youngest and last living daughter of the eight Kangas women.

Aunt Josie, as we knew her, was a polite, intelligent, and a wonderful conversationalist. Possessing an excellent memory, she became the family historian.

Aunt Josie passed away quietly at the age of 97 last November.

My dear brother Allen Paul McMurphy passed away December 28th. He worked at the hospital in Calumet a few years back & was so happy when he got the assignment because he loved the Keweenaw so much. Our hearts are heavy with the loss, but we are rejoicing that he has been released. Godspeed Paul. We love you.

Remembering my cousin and friend, Larry Smith, who passed away on Dec. 26. We did many hours of genealogy together via the computer. It was helpful having someone who shared common ancestors and also the love of research. I will miss him.

Remembering my dear and sweet sister Lillian Leinonen who passed away from cancer January 11, 2008 only 9 days after her 51st birthday. We still miss her so much!

Remembering my wife's friend, Janet Wilson, who died November 25, my adopted parents, David and Susan Baird, my Uncles, Justin and Tom Way, my aunts, Ester and Mary Way, and our pet dogs, Heidi, Dusty, Duke, Matty, and Trooper.

Remembering my husband's Grams Jan Cecil, who passed away New Year's Eve in 1999. The changing of the year will never be the same for the small group of us that had to share those sad phone calls as midnight got closer.

My Father Julius J. Brunk who passed 12/31/1998 May his soul rest in peace.
