Some nights are brighter than others and that's usually due to the moon and what phase it's in. Today's first scene from Aladino Mandoli, was taken near Teal Lake in the Ishpeming/Negaunee area. The way the moon is illuminating this scene, reminds me of the lines from 'Twas the Night Before Christmas ~ The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow, gave the luster of mid-day to objects below.

Speaking of the moon... Rob Wetton snapped these two full moon photos the night of the lunar eclipse, but said it was hazy later, so he didn't get any shot of that event. When I first looked at the middle photo, I thought the smaller lights were stars and the lighter patch, a cloud perhaps, but then I read what Rob said about the photos himself, "Full moon over the ski hill at dusk" and I realized those were the ski hill lights twinkling below that bright yellow orb. Hope you enjoy the beautiful winter evening scenes, as they accompany our wishes for a peaceful Christmas Eve.

Listening to folks on Today Show rave about Florida's 70's, I feast on the photos of Pasty. Of course I'm indoors watching another fluffy snow feast. That night scene is absolutely stunning Aladino thanks.

Owl Moon.

The first photo by Aladino Mandoli is just riveting. The instant I saw it, it took me straight to the pages of Owl Moon, the Caldecott Medal-winning story by Jane Yolen featuring the luminous watercolor illustrations by John Schoenherr.If you haven't read this book to your kids, go get a copy and do it, even if your kids are 70.

A very Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year to all Pasty-camers across the world. And a special thanks to Charlie and Mary for making this site possible!

And, as in many decades passed, this poem/carol is still true:

I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day

I thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along the unbroken song

yup, toss up between 'night before Christmas" and 'Owl Moon'. Both among my top favorites and I still read them even though my kids are adults now. beautiful pictures. Thank you, and Merry Christmas to everyone!!!!! ( I think I hear Santa on the roof!)
