The winter of the City of Bangor incident, the Copper Country got lots of snow. Listening to the forecast, it sounds like history could repeat. They've already gotten over 2 feet of new snow in parts of Minnesota, and it appears to be headed this way. We are nervous this time of year about the hundreds of pasty shipments waiting to leave Calumet in time for Christmas. Break out the dogsleds. By maija in Commerce Township (Maija) on Sunday, December 12, 2010 - 08:51 am: My Dad was only 13, but he drove some of the cars from the City of Bangor to Calumet. By RD, Iowa (Rdiowa) on Sunday, December 12, 2010 - 09:12 am: Just heard on the news that the Metrodome in Minneapolis has collapsed under the heavy snowfall. By FJL (Langoman) on Sunday, December 12, 2010 - 09:17 am: Couldn't happen to a more deserving place. Hope it took out that #*+^% horn........... Smothery! :O~~~gasp By DEAN SCHWARTZ SR. (Lulu) on Sunday, December 12, 2010 - 10:51 am: There is a story about the "Italian Hall" disaster, in the Free Press on page 21A. There sure have been a lot of stories about the U.P. lately. By Eddyfitz (Eddyfitz) on Sunday, December 12, 2010 - 10:57 am:
We are in the throughs of getting our first snowfall of the season. Snowed in with 1" so far in the big city. "Sunday going to church" will be a chore today. By David Soumis (Davesou) on Sunday, December 12, 2010 - 12:23 pm:
one of my goals in life was to stick that horn you know where. now maybe its buried in the snow at least. By Daveofmohawk (Daveofmohawk) on Sunday, December 12, 2010 - 01:08 pm: Used to walk past the Oak St. Depot every day going to and from school. We would stop inside to warm up on bitter cold days. That station was a wonderful piece of local history, it's unfortunate that it couldn't have been preserved. By Richard Wieber (Dickingrayling) on Sunday, December 12, 2010 - 08:59 pm: Dave You are right--old depots should have been saved, if possible. They have seen a lot of history. Every time I get back UP north I check to see if the Albion station building is still there. That is the station that connected Calumet and the towns north of there. I wouldn't be suprised if some days, in the old days, that street car was the only life link for the north end. By Paul (612paul) on Monday, December 13, 2010 - 04:49 pm:
I hope the "deserving place" you talked about was referring to the Dome, not the State of Mn. By Paul (612paul) on Monday, December 13, 2010 - 04:52 pm: Last post should have read "stuck" in the snow. By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Saturday, December 18, 2010 - 08:11 am: Too bad we don't have streetcars + interurban lines, anymore. It would have been fun 2 ride on them. |
