Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Sunday, December 5, 2010 - 08:40 am:

While researching the wreck of the City of Bangor for "Day in History" this past week, Edie and I came across a couple of related Shoebox Memories from Doug and Karen Spaeth. The first one is on the deck of the boat, carving the new 1926 Chyslers and Whippets out of their snowy encasement. The second one - though we don't know much about its identity - seems to be a little comic relief from all the hard work rescuing these stranded cars. It was certainly a colorful incident in the Keweenaw, in early December 84 years ago.

Thanks to all who are supporting Sheriff Ron Lahti in his annual effort to brighten up Christmas for some Keweenaw kids who otherwise might be left out this time of year. Gifts of any size are appreciated. Also, we've been highlighting two area efforts to win funding for their respective projects. These are not asking for monetary donations, but rather just taking the time to vote each day:

Copper Harbor Ambulance Garage
and
Calumet Theatre Roof Project

As always, thanks for stopping by Pasty Central - and have a good week :o)

Good morning! This is Doug's wife, Karen. What a
fun treat to see Grandpa Trangmar's photos
highlighted on today's Pasty Cam! The photos
belonged to Doug's grandfather, Douglas Houghton
Trangmar, and we presume that he was the
photographer.

The top photo is definitely that of the crew
recovering the City of Bangor cargo. We will
always be grateful for the Pasty Cam helping us
finally identify the circumstances of his City of
Bangor photos. When we first found them, we were
completely puzzled, knowing that there must be a
very interesting story behind them.

We are not sure about the lower photo, but we do
not believe it is connected to the City of Bangor.
Grandpa Trangmar had several brothers; this
appears to 3 of them having a little high-spirited
fun in the snow!
