It's basketball season all over the Copper Country and today we take a look at the Jr. High boys team of the Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes, playing a recent game against the Houghton Gremlins. Michelle Jeffery was snapping shots left and right, getting plenty of basketball action with her son out there on the court. I think he's number 11, so that would be him with the fancy ball handling in the third photo. Not sure what the outcome of this game was score-wise, but I can tell you that these young men were learning valuable lessons about life on that basketball court, that will long be remembered. The score of the game will fade and be forgotten within weeks, but those lessons of working as a team will last a lifetime. Glad Michelle is recording these events in her kids life, as they grow up so quickly.

I used to love watching the Suomi Lions play basketball while attending Suomi from 69 to 71. Coming from a high school with a great tradition of basketball (Waukegan HS, went down state senior year)alwasy loved the game. My freshman year we beat Northern Michigan's JV team in our gym. Everyone went nuts at the end and all 200 of us rushed the floor. Even my roomie from Finland, Pekka, and he didn't know basketball.

We had many many happy hours playing basketball while growing up, just like the kids in the pictures today. We played is Lake Linden St. Joes, Hubbell St.Cecelia, Arnheim, Chassell gyms in our pre-teen years. and my first high school game was in the brand new gym way down in Negaunee..(to us that was on the other side of the Moon). I have a grandson starting his freshman year in Wyandotte and he will play his first 9th grade game next week against a team from Dearborn. Good luck to the LAKES again this year on the hardwood.........Shep

Mary, thanks for straightening me out on Bob Raffaelli. So glad to hear he is still playing that accordion. Did his grandson die in service?
Our condolances to the family.
