You might want to take a whack at splitting some wood before you come in. This week's Shoebox Memory from Terry Johnson captures the feel of a home-away-from-home in the woods, if you've ever done any winter camping or hunting. For me these scenes trigger memories including the smell of canvas waking up in a tent... the incense of wood smoke as you throw another log on the fire... and probably the odor of a bunch of guys who need a shower. After a few days like this, my wife calls me her "unwashed mass" :o)
It's a fact of life here up north. About mid-November the manly half of the population disappears for a few days in the wild, while the deer hunting widows may enjoy a girl's night out, or just hold down the fort until the mighty hunter returns. Usually about Thanksgiving, stomachs start growling for turkey instead of venison, so life gets jolted back to normal. The gear gets put away, the guys get a bath, and company comes over for dinner.
We hope it's been a good holiday for your family. Have a good week :o)
