It's that time of the year when the waning Autumn struggles to give birth to a new Winter. Often I think of Dan Urbanski when I see nature in such labor pains as this weekend, with the rain turning to snow and the green turning to white. Dan was a man for all seasons, enthusiastically exploring each with his camera, sharing his world with the rest of us. If you're new to Pasty Central, take a look back in the early years and you'll find Dan's handiwork woven throughout.
This past week the Friends of the Porkies dedicated the Artist-in-Residence Cabin built in Dan's honor at Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. Dan was the founding president of the Friends, and I'm sure he would be pleased with the work they continue to carry on with the same enthusiasm.
Dan's talent is surely missed. It is always wonderful to have one of his photos displayed.

What a grand dedication to Dan, a peaceful setting to enjoy nature in. I am certain he is smiling on us at this very minute.
Oh, yes the labor pains of the changing seasons. So nicely worded Charlie.

He's quite the photographer. May he rest in Peace. (BTW, would anyone be willing to list Dan on Find a Grave?)

Cannot begin to tell you how many of Dan's photos I sent out to people all over the country and how they enjoyed them! Wonderful looking cabin built in his honor!

There was a man that was beyond Blessed with his talents behind the lens. I said it before, and I'll say it again....God needed the best photographer to redecorate....and he got Dan!

I think of Dan quite often, especially when the seasons change like now. Many times as I hike through the woods, I can imagine Dan doing the same thing, looking for that "special" picture to capture. His work was, and is still, spectacular and he is surely missed.

I saw the cabin was dedicated on Thursday in the Daily Mining Gazette. If you look on line you can read the story. He had a great eye and left lots of memories behind

The man was truely gifted; definitely an eye for nature.....

The wood for the cabin was carried up by hand, bit by bit and piece by piece. Dan deserved it, so did his wife.

Dan kindly let me borrow slides to take to Europe as an exchange student for a year long ago and the folks over there oohed and ahed about the beauty of where I lived.

I'm so sorry to hear this. We visited Dan's studio a couple of times and enjoyed meeting him. His photographs of the Porcupine Mountains and the Lake were beautiful. It's a big loss, and we send our best wishes to Dan's family.
