Today's photos from Joe Kirkish and Bob Gilreath, respectively, give you a glimpse into what the fall Keweenaw mornings look like this time of year. I'm no meteorologist, but here's my attempt at explaining the phenomenon called fog.
In Joe's shot, it is most likely caused from a recent rain, cooling the air and adding extra moisture near the warmer ground, that combination then forms a light fog which shrouds the leafless scene. Bob's photo was taken from the Dow parking lot at Michigan Tech, looking towards Dollar Bay. In this scene, the cooler air temperatures, combined with the warmer temps in the water, are what most likely created the fog over Portage Lake.
Did good,Your getting all techinical and all. When will the 2011 Pasty-Cam calenders be ready ?

Impressive explanation, but I would like to add that a strong cup of coffee clears that fog away, as it is doing at this very moment :)

The "Legends of the Pasty Cam" 2011 Pasty Cam Calendars should be available next Friday, November 12...providing we don't have any major snow storms. This year's photos are fantastic. Daryl
