does anyone have a report on the height of the waves on Lake Superior? I heard that the waves
would be about 26 feet high. That is really nasty winds. I hope none of the freighters are out in
this weather. Anyone know if that boat is still in Portage Lake today?
Any other boats anywhere in the canal?

From John Dee, at at 8:48AM (EDT) today, quote:
Quote:"Right now the north buoy in Lake Superior is reporting waves to 26 1/2 feet.
Stannard Rock has been reporting sustained winds of 60 mph.

And earlier, at at 5:37 AM (EDT) today, quote (emphasis is mine)
Quote:"I guess it's official. This was the strongest non-tropical low pressure to hit the US since we have been able to measure them. The official central pressure was 955 mb as it was traveling just to the south of International Falls. Just 6 more millibars lower and it would have had the pressure strength of a category 4 hurricane.
Bet the power crews in the Midwest are busy today!

(Didn't Katrina hit New Orleans as a Category 3 hurricane? -FRN)
