We take time out from our regular Sunday Shoebox Memories to honor the memory of those who have passed on during October. You are welcome to add to these names:
Robert Bramble Ray Cook Helene Ekdahl Alex McLean Don Miller Matt North Our Servicemen and Women who gave their all
(Special thanks to Kristine Jukuri Weidner for providing our end-of-month memorial with a lovely October sunrise over Houghton.)
We had the privilege of attending memorial services for a couple of these friends this week. We would have been at Robert Bramble's funeral yesterday, except that we were attending the service for Ray Cook in Petoskey. Bob was a Board Member at Still Waters during the time Pasty Central began in the mid-90's where his son, John Bramble, was the lead cook. Our condolences to John, his mom and his family.
Ray Cook, my sister's father-in-law, was a well-loved father, husband, uncle and friend who left his mark in the northwoods and in the hearts of all who knew him.
We often rubbed shoulders with Matt North at Gitche Gumee where he and his wife Gloria would often volunteer. When Pasty Central began, Gloria worked at Still Waters, and Matt would join her to bring music for the resident's. Lot's of great memories of these friends, and you are welcome, as always, to share some of yours.

I'm remembering my father-in-law, Al, who passed away on October 23, 2003. He was such a great guy and we all still miss him. He was my husband's step-father, but you'd never know it. He treated all of the boys as if they were his own.

I was just looking at the picture for the day (which is wonderful, by the way) and then reading the other posts. I guess I should have done that first so that I could tell Richard J how sorry I am for the awful year he's had. You have my deepest sympathy. Nobody should have to go through that much is such a short time. It's always hard to lose somebody we care about, but that many in such a short period of time had to be terrible:(
By Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck) on Sunday, October 31, 2010 - 08:04 pm:
I agree with Deb, Richard my deepest sympathy, keep your head up friend!
Richard Even though I was an altar boy for many years, it has been TOO many years to remember my Latin. Would you care to share a translation with us?

DickinGrayling, Might as well make a trio of Richards, from Wikipedia I found the following:
May angels lead you into paradise; upon your arrival, may the martyrs receive you and lead you to the holy city of Jerusalem. May the ranks of angels receive you, and with Lazarus, the poor man, may you have eternal rest.
In the services for the dead, this antiphon is sung in procession on the way from the final blessing of the corpse in church to the graveyard where burial takes place.
