With fall in the air now, the mornings are cooler and often there is a shroud of fog in varying degrees. Some mornings, just a little and lifting away, like this scene from Frederic W. Koski. You can still see bright yellow color amongst the green of the pine trees in Frederic's second photo, too, those are Tamarack trees, one of the few conifers that lose their needles in the fall, turning bright yellow before dropping off.

The bottom two photos give us a bit closer look at the Tamarack tree, sent in from James Alain. In the note that accompanied them, James added the following information for us, "Mother Nature's Second Fall Color Show... we have one of the Copper Country's larger groves of Tamarack trees, in our swamp along the Chassell-Painesdale Road. After all the other leaves change color and drop, the Tamaracks turn a beautiful golden yellow... really glittering and gorgeous on a sunshiny day."

Mother Nature sure knows how to put on a good show UP North!

I especially love the first picture, too. I had never been to the Keweenaw in the fall before this year. It was beautiful! Great pictures, Fred.

It would be nice to hang onto these beautiful fall days till next May. Sounds like this winter season maybe a duzy.
