Everybody loves a mystery. I'll give you a hint: it's not my desk.
We've been dozens of historic places around the U.P. in the dozen+ years we've been bringing these daily pictures. Today we're viewing an office that appears to have been cluttered for some time. I'm curious if anyone has any ideas where its at?
Edie and I are traveling today, but we'll check in from time-to-time on our handy smart phone, to see who guesses this historic spot.
They say "A messy desk shows a busy person" The bridge cam shows a lot of fog. Everyone be careful up there.

Office at the Houghton County Airport?
By RD, Iowa (Rdiowa) on Sunday, October 3, 2010 - 08:36 am:
There are a lot of old abandoned mining offices in the U.P., but my guess this is up at the old Keweenaw Academy at Mount Horace Greely.

Some good guesses (although I bet Dennis Hext would take exception to the airport remark). Here's another hint: it's not an office that has been used in recent years.

With the paper cutter and jammed file drawers my guess is an office in the old Gazette building.

I wondering if it isn't a photo of an office inside the USCGC Mesquite....

Shirley...You beat me to the punch line :-) Although, it could not be my desk because there are no socks laying around.

Now where could that be.... I wonder. Couldn't be the (former) Still Water Nursing Home, on Mine St., in Calumet, could it?
By SARAH CUDLIP (Porter) on Sunday, October 3, 2010 - 12:41 pm:
I'd say Sharon Smith's also but I bet hers is messier.

I received many email responses beside those posted here. The number one choice was the old radar base, followed by my office at Stillwaters. Our thanks to Mark Rowe for transporting us to the Mesquite (without getting any of us wet :0)
Maybe Mark could share some of the details of this dive...

I think I resent the implication that I have a messy office. However, I don't have any file cabinets (empty or full) in my studio. That is the reason I usually leave the lights off until the camera stops taking pictures...
I have always been EXTREMELY suspicous of people who have neat desks and immaculate offices. Don't they have anything better to do?
Please continue the good work in voting for the Copper Harbor Ambulance Barn. We have a month to go to hold onto our #2 position or better it:
And thanks again (not for the slights about my studio).

I wonder why there would be very little growth after all of these years?
By David Soumis (Davesou) on Sunday, October 3, 2010 - 03:53 pm:
is this prior to its sinking? it does look like it could be taken through water a bit, but things are sitting on the desk,

Congrats, Capt! But, hey Charlie, I was close with my guess.....a sunken ship is definitely 'out of commission'. :) (funny, Alex!);D

Is that a copy machine or scanner on the right?? Can somebody tell me the proper way to pronounce L'Anse? I'm reading a book and I'm sure I'm butchering it badly. It's a U.P history book I purchased at Grandpa's Barn in Copper Harbor. I like to support the businesses in the U.P on trips as they are so good.

Wes Scott-----My folks, in the 30s and 40s said "Lawnse" while others said "Lay Aunce". Sounds French to me so you better ask a Frenchman.
By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Sunday, October 3, 2010 - 10:18 pm:
It has to be French, referring to the bay or something? Thanks for the info! I've never been there to date but will in the future. I'm slowly hitting all the towns in the U.P. It's a wonderful place to explore.
By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Sunday, October 3, 2010 - 10:50 pm:
Fantastic! Know I know! That area was very important to the indians for fishing. The history is so rich in the U.P. All the names come to light when you read the history of the U.P. All the town and city names and Brockway Drive etc etc. Just enjoy it greatly. Always have a wonderful time in the Keweenaw.
