How deep is the deepest shaft in the old Clark Mine?

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 - 06:26 am:

Good Morning. The deepest shaft of the old Clark Mine is 300 feet deep.
First Post

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 - 06:35 am:

The deepest shaft is 127,945 feet deep.

Voted for the ambulance barn ~ have a great day everyone!
Close Second
Looks more like a miss of about 24 miles :o)

Did not get the bird, however I did not get the shaft.

"She got the gold mine, I got the shaft"

Some great photos this morning! The very first one was just so inviting!! That, "Room With a View", and "Superior Splashing" made me home sick, as well as Joyce's picture.

Marianne, way to go!! Great song, Uncle Chuck!! Wasn't that Jerry Reed? Funny stuff.

Have a great one!!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 - 07:33 am:

U.C. as Jerry Reed would also say, "When you're hot you're hot, when you're not, you're not!"

If the deepest shaft at the old Clark Mine was 300 ft., that begs the question; how deep is the shaft at the new Clark Mine??

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 - 08:22 am:

OK, i'm game ~ the deepest shaft of the NEW Clark Mine is 127,945 feet?

Hmmmm, probably not.....

Was up in the CC this past weekend. Brought my mom to THE HUT for dinner. They give a free meal for your birthday, which is really a wild idea .
I had a pasty, of course, but I have to admit I was somewhat disappointed...it just din;t taste all the great...it was OK, but nothing to brag about. We also stopped by Toni's on the way out a bought 4 to go. They also were not all that great...ok, but didn't have the bang I normally am used to.
Also bought one at the food store in Crystal Falls for lunch on the way back. That was burned and was not good even a little bit.
0-3 on the pastys. Well , maybe next time.

I miss Aunt Sophies pasties from what use to be Frakis, in Calumet. Just like how mom made them.

I love the first picture, so peaceful.

(imagine a pasty)

By sometimesyooper (Nancyd) on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 - 09:37 am:

The best pasty I ever had was last year at Gitche Gumee Bible Camp. My husband and I attended a program given by the Keweenaw Historical Society. The pasty had a flaky, fairly light home made crust and the mystery meat was not so mysterious!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 - 10:42 am:

My oldest son and I had pasties at The Hut in late August when our whole family was up there to take my youngest son to Mich Tech for his freshman year. I enjoyed my pasty, with no sauce. My son had ketchup on his and thought his was ok. (My hubby and other two sons had other things from the menu & wanted my pasty, LOL.) I thought mine from The Hut was much better than the frozen ones we bought near St Ignace, and put in our cooler for the trip straight home. Those had been awesome in the past, but they were just ok this time.

Great photos. Some scenic + some historic. Thanks 4 posting.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 - 10:09 pm:

Dave, next time try Connie's. They're more like what we're used to eating. They're so good. I've never had a pasty that was not made within my own family that I enjoyed more. She's up by Pamida and Pat's in Calumet. Even my dad liked them, and he's so fussy!!

I've had Toni's pasties numerous times and thought they were just okay. Had some in St. Ignace that were awful.

By Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck) on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 - 10:43 pm:

Deb, you must not of had Lehto's in St. Ignace then, all the rest really are bad in that area. We enjoy the Hut's and Toni's whenever we're U.P. in the Keweenaw, I even like a carryout from Louie's in Lake Linden when we're gettin our grocerys for our stay at the camp at L.B. to eat on the way. No gravy, just kethup, •••• you guys are fussy, the only thing better..... Raw Oysters on the Half Shell or a Whitefish dinner from the Harbor House!

Long Live the Hut & Toni's, and the Bear Belly Bar & Grill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah, Jim's Pizza in Calumet too!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 - 10:46 pm:

Geez, UC, do you do nothing but eat when you're UP there, LOL!!!!

Like I said before, don't know what happened to my post, The Pasty Oven's pork/beef pasties are great.

By Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck) on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 - 09:36 am:

LOL Deb, Just know all the good haunts after all these years! We were talking the other day, If I had a nickel for every time I've crossed the Mighty Mac, I wouldn't have to work again! lol

"Like I said before, don't know what happened to my post, The Pasty Oven's pork/beef pasties are great."

And the question remains, where exactly is The Pasty Oven in Houghton? (I could have sworn you said "in Houghton" in your original post.) The only Pasty Oven I am aware of is in Quinnesec.

By Yooperguide (Huntandfish) on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 - 04:47 pm:

It was a trick question FRNash. Glad you saw the post.

Mary says: Maybe you didn't get a chance to read the email I sent you...your post was removed because, like FRNash said, there's no Pasty Oven in Houghton, so to avoid confusion, I removed it.

The Pasty Oven in Houghton is in the Econo Foods freezer, as well as Pat's Foods and even Pamida.

Hope I "speeled" everything wright, know what a funatic u are. Hehehe!
