There are plenty of country roads to travel here in the Upper Peninsula and along the way, you're bound to come upon a farm scene like Aladino Mandoli shares with us today. Some of them are abandoned, but this one looks to be pretty well kept, so I'm betting it's still in use. Not only the leaves change color this time of year, but notice how the grasses in the field change, too, getting ready for the harvest if a crop has been planted.
Aladino also found a little color happening near this unnamed lake, shrouded by what looks like an early morning fog. Usually when the sun peaks out, fog such as this "burns off" and in this instance, it looks like that will then double your viewing pleasure, since the changing leaves are reflected on the waters edge. Fall is a calming, peaceful time, when it seems like folks slow down the pace a little and enjoy what surrounds them a bit more.

What a pretty farm! A horse farm/stable perhaps?
By Donna (Donna) on Monday, September 27, 2010 - 07:01 am:
I took a spin from Baraga to Bootjack and back yesterday. Wow...it is just beautiful out there. There was fog up north...big fog bank moving out between Chassell and Tech, and then crossing the bridge to head to Lake Linden was like driving into another world! Half way across the bridge, it was "Thick as Peasoup"...and Ripley was almost white...then I got to Dollar Bay and it cleared up....
I wouldn't say it's "Peak" color...but it's close. What a stunning piece of the world we live in!!
Today it's actually Troll cam today, because those barns are not in the UP they are actually about 30 minutes West of Traverse city maybe we could call it "Cherry Cam" for today. The barns are part of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National lakeshore. have a look here with google maps here is the approximate address:
6480 S Dune Hwy, Glen Arbor, MI, United States
maps.google.com and copy and paste the address
Mary says: Thanks for the info Matt, I guess that one slipped right by me. ;->

I thought pictures were suppose to be from the U.P.?
Mary says: They are supposed to be from the U.P., but every once in awhile we post one that isn't on purpose...this isn't one of those times, though. I just assumed it was taken in the U.P...my mistake. :-/

Nice pictures again today. My grandson and I are recording by digital camera all the OLD barns here in Berlin Twp, Monroe co. should be a school project for people in Michigan before they all collapse and are replaced by "pole barns". Gives me something to do when I am not out BOATNERDING.
By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Monday, September 27, 2010 - 08:58 am:
Eddyfitz...what a great project you and your grandson are working on. Even our area's Amish communities are going to polebarns.

Beautiful photos, no matter where they're taken. Thanks for the info, Matt, I had a feeling that the barn and extensions were still in use somehow. Almost looks like it could be an inn with cabins.

BOATNERD ALERT..In viewing my many sites today I see where a boatload of salt is enroute to Hancock this morning and a load of coal is destined to arrive at Munising later today. Get the cameras out.

Lovely photos. So good to see a well-maintained barn. They are almost always picturesque, but most of ours are falling in on themselves -- so sad.

Please remember to vote for the Copper Harbor ambulance barn! We only have 3 more days to get to #1!
And while you're at it, if you're anywhere in the area, drive up US-41 and up to the top of Brockway. The color is superb this year.

Hey everyone who is interested, the Canadian Progress is currently unloading road salt at Mattila's dock in Hancock, MI. This will be the only boat this year as I was told.
By Danielle L. Adams (Badkid) on Monday, September 27, 2010 - 04:19 pm:
Yes Eddie, it came in to Hancock about 11:10am. They are currently unloading for about 45 mins yet. 20,000 tons of salt is being brought in. Ask Mary about the pics...but I will be posting some to boatnerd.com also and on my facebook page.
By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Monday, September 27, 2010 - 05:02 pm:
Could someone please post pics of the Canadian Progress here on Pasty Cam? Thank-you!
By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Monday, September 27, 2010 - 07:56 pm:
We just got home from watching the Candian Progress enter Lake Superior. We were also out watching it unload and then went back out there to watch it leave. It was such a perfect day for it. Watched it come thru the breakwaters was something I never saw and Bil never saw it either. It was such a great day. ;O)
I must have took 100 pictures AND I wonder if that was Neil out there buzzing around in his plane?? HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
By Danielle L. Adams (Badkid) on Monday, September 27, 2010 - 09:30 pm:
Janie, I sent a bunch of pics to mary for her. I can send you some if you'd like.
Mickill was that you in Hancock earlier? I didn't get to the breakwaters BUT got a few of it leaving and coming in. I have like 100 some photos myself. I was at the gates for a while talking to Dave. He opened the gates for Kelly from the gazette to take pics so watch tomorrows paper. I was told this is the only salt boat for this year.

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 - 12:04 am:
I thought that was Neil out by the breakwaters buzzing around above us as I stood there waving up at the plane but, I found out it was not Neil. Whoever was in the plane circled us a couple of times as I stood there waving. Then Bill said they are going to think something is wrong with me and send back some help. LOL. (silly Bill ;O))
I remember them unloading salt down by Ripley at one time, I even remember seeing the freighter turn around right there.
