When it rains, it pours... and it’s been doing plenty of that here UP North in the past week or so. Lynn Virtanen went ahead and captured the moments after the rain has just ended in today's shots. The clouds start clearing away, making room for the sun to come back out and brighten everything again, before the end of the day. And in her last picture, we see what seems like a never ending two-track road, still glistening with the wet of the recent rain. Descriptive photos that awaken your senses...you can almost smell the scent of rain that hangs in the air after a good rainfall. Another of nature's U.P. moods

Here are a couple added photos of interest that many folks here in the Schoolcraft Township area are excited about. The location has been a controversial subject in Lake Linden itself, but it's going up...this is the construction of the Verizon Cell Phone Tower in Schoolcraft Township (on the Bootjack Road outside of Lake Linden). These were taken last evening (Sept. 9th) around 6:00 p.m.

Seeing Lynn's pictures, I couldn't help taking a deep breath. The smell of the Keweenaw after a rain is enough to give me a high!

Please continue to vote for Copper Harbor's Pepsi grant! You're really helping us:

Sharon...I don't know what is in that rain, but could you send me a bottle :)

Today's vote has been cast.

Guess modern technology, cell phone tower, had to come sooner or later. Just hate it had to be when we moved to Lake Linden.;O( BUT, it will be nice to get in touch with Bill when he is out and about and I possibly need something.

YAHOO... my computer is working again.

I am sorry, but I love seeing the Verizon tower!! I wonder if it will reach all the way to Little Betsy?? Probably not, but at least my phone would work in Lake Linden while I am passing through.

Those top 2 photos are beautiful!

Hooray for cell phone cover near Lake Linden. Sorry, for those who aren't happy about it, but I do know that Lake Linden hasn't had coverage, and when I'm there, my sons don't like not being able to reach me. :-) I wish Copper Harbor had coverage, too. It's kind of a pain to have to go to the top of Brockway Mountain to make a cell call, if you need to. I wonder if they could hide a cell tower in/near Keweenaw Mountain Lodge that might take care of Copper Harbor?

By Dave Koskiniemi (Thephoneguy) on Friday, September 10, 2010 - 05:16 pm:

i heard from an at&t engineer today, that they will be an that new tower also

By Russell E. Emmons (Russemmons) on Friday, September 10, 2010 - 06:38 pm:

Charlie might be interested to know we now have a new 20 stories or so high cell tower just 3 doors from us at the corner since he was here! Progress! Now maybe the cell phones will work in this out of the way
rural farm country!

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Friday, September 10, 2010 - 07:14 pm:

The only thing I have to say about the tower is I am glad I have lots of pictures coming down the hill to Lake Linden without the tower being in the shot.

More cell phone news, see this from The Daily Mining Gazette, September 8, 2010: Keweenaw County officials discuss cell phone service, quoted here in part:

Quote:

"The Keweenaw Mountain Lodge could soon be home to a new Verizon Wireless tower, providing cell service for hundreds of users around the Keweenaw.

[County chairman Joe] Langdon said there are still talks about putting a phone tower in place in Bumbletown."

I do not spend enough time on a 'cell phone' to justify paying the rates.

We used our cell phones a heck of a lot more when we lived downstate and stopped our service up here.
