Judy Byykkonen took her family on a hiking adventure to the Hungarian Falls in the Hubbell area (actually Tamarack City) and we get to reap the benefits. There are actually two falls here to see, the upper and the lower, but Judy and company only tackled the lower falls on their visit. Hiking there is half the adventure and once you get to the higher elevations, the view across Torch Lake is spectacular. Also fun, is watching the water fall over the steep precipice, which can be done from below, like Judy's gang did in several of today's photos or you can climb a little higher and check it all out from above, along with that terrific view. No matter what way you choose to take in these falls, you can't go wrong.

Sorry for the late start today. Besides having lightning destroy one of our Marquette County access points, a security update caused one of our servers to be down overnight. Far as we know, everything is back on track. Thanks to all the dedicated Pasty Central staff who keeps things humming here in the U.P.

What beautiful photos! I envy Judy and her family on their climbing trek....would be so much fun if it weren't for osteorarthritis in both hips! :< I used to love to climb 'n' walk. The last pic is sorta chilling though, if I remember correctly the undergrowth & overgrowth around falls are usually slick from the spray and moss. Don't think I'd venture in that area. :O Thank you, Judy, for sharing your family's adventure!:)

Isn't this picture the Bluff, or the upper falls?

There are actually three falls at Hungarian Falls.....lower, middle, and upper. Most people visit the lower one, but the other two are well worth seeing, too.

This hike has been on my list for a while now...looks fantastic. The second photo reminds me of Bare Bluff, another terrific hiking destination.

Thanks Judy and Mary for the grand photos of the falls. This will be the only way I'll ever visit them, through your eyes. Like lighthouses I never tire of pics of waterfalls. Even if it's through someone elses eyes. It was worth the wait.

We hiked from the bridge on the lower tracks all the way to the upper falls. A nice little trek.

While growing up in Hubbell we hiked up the Hungarian Creek many, many times handfishing for brookies. We would put them in our "Bunny Bread" creel as we moved up past the Bluff and onto the dam for a good swim.(Opie had nothing on us)
