During the past 22 years our family has lived in the Keweenaw, I've had the opportunity to explore just about every historic building in the Peninsula. That's because we have connected many of them to Pasty.NET's wireless broadband, a dramatic contrast in antiques and technology. Last week it was my privilege for the first time to walk the porch of the Lakebreeze Hotel in Eagle Harbor - (I've seen it spelled both ways, Lake Breeze and Lakebreeze) - and spend some time with Chris Kvale the proprietor, viewing the vintage pictures and memorabilia in the Lobby. Chris's wife Marcia Raley is the granddaughter of the establishment's founders in 1922, Alice and Austin Raley. Her parents Frank and Helen managed the hotel from 1946 to 1988, when Marcia and Chris took over the family tradition. This summer it is open for 6 weeks, during these beautiful summer days when visitors truly enjoy the Harbor's Lake Breeze.
Speaking of Pasty.NET's broadband service, this weekend marks the addition of another resort area in the Keweenaw with wireless: Lake Medora. Until now Medora has been without landlines, spotty cell phone service, and no land-based Internet connections. Dozens of cottages and houses - some old and some new - will now be able to communicate with the outside world, a convenience most of us just take for granted.
I like these old pictures. They're very historic.

What a neat picture! I would love to be in a rocking chair sitting on that porch.

What a grand looking place! Bob and I spent the day up on the Mississippi, not quite Lake Superior, but it was a nice to get away.

It would appear from the photo, that the Eagle Harbor Coast Guard Lighthouse already had a Low Frequency RadioLocation transmitter in operation, from the tower in the photo.

Now Lake Medora sounds like a place I'd like to live....well maybe not live year-round but a nice place to visit. My husband and I used to vacation at a resort called "Peaks of Otter" on the Blue Ridge Parkway in VA.....the nice thing about it was that there were no in-room phones nor TVs, just the beauty of the quiet surroundings! :) ahhhhhh.....peace!

I love old pictures too. We spent most of the weekend in Duluth on our way UP here. Duluth is beautiful and also on Lake Superior. The Big Ships were spectacular and we had a wonderful time. Happy to be back in the Copper Country, though, if only for a week.
