Looks like the colors came to Copper Harbor early this year... colorful cars that is! Today's shots are from Joe Kirkish and show us the 7th annual End o' the Road - Keweenaw Tour & Car Show. The vintage cars assembled in Calumet and then made a mile-long line of cars heading to Copper Harbor. Once there in the Harbor, the owners parked them so that folks could walk and gawk at the cars from "back in the day."

Joe's last photo reminds me of something I need to warn everyone about... if you plan on being in Copper Harbor next weekend on Saturday, July 24th, be perpared. They're expecting the roar of thunder that day... with the annual "Thunder in the Harbor - Keweenaw Ride-In" event. The hogs will be hopping in the Harbor that day! :->

By Donna (Donna) on Monday, July 19, 2010 - 06:52 am:

Oh wow...Thunder in the Harbor...and that WILL be true! I remember one year when The Thin Blue Line drove through Baraga..heading north...when those bikes started coming around the Red Rocks, WOW...the sound was unreal!!! And LOUD.

Great pics...what colors on some of those cars!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Monday, July 19, 2010 - 07:28 am:

Good Morning! I love today's photos. I guess you know you're getting older when many if not most of the cars pictured today were fairly new on the roads when you were a kid, LOL! (To me a vintage car would be the ones that were around when my parents were little, like the Model T and Model A Fords, etc.)

By Norma in Midland (Normainmidland) on Monday, July 19, 2010 - 07:45 am:

Awesome pictures today! I love antique car shows! It sure is summertime in the UP!

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Monday, July 19, 2010 - 07:55 am:

Fantastic...Fantastic! Wish I could have been there and look at that beautiful weather. It's like the Dream Cruise in Heaven and thanks for the last photo. I don't have a loud motorcycle, but I will be cruising UP on the Wing come Labor Day weekend. I can hardly contain myself now.

Can someone point us to MORE, on line, pictures of the 7th annual End o' the Road - Keweenaw Tour & Car Show? These are just teasers!

Down here in flatland, the roads are; -- flat and straight. I miss the hills and curves of the Keweenaw and the scenery. (Is a bean field scenery?)

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Monday, July 19, 2010 - 08:18 am:

Thankyou for these car show pics! Hubby and I are really going to shoot to partake in this event next year! P.S. Yeah! Rolling Thunder, Harley Davidson #1!

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Monday, July 19, 2010 - 10:08 am:

It was a gorgeous day for 7th annual End o' the Road Keweenaw Tour & Car Show. When me & my computer where in TN. looking at the photo's on Pasty it was a real treat to see, and I longed to be home here in the Keweenaw.I got to see all of this pictured from Saturday in person. I spent the whole day in The Harbor sitting right by the shady spot behind the tent in the second picture as the car's came by. In the fourth photo I was standing right there while the man was taking the picture of the Cadillac. Then in Eagle River around 9:43 pm.I watched the Sun set into Lake Superior while listening to the waves slap the shore. You think you miss the Copper Country after you leave, but don't really realize just how much until you come back after forty years in the month of May to see the last of the snow, to see the Spring turn into Summer knowing your still going to be here come Fall. Now when Winter comes I just might write on here how cold I am, as it will take some time for my blood to thicken up from being in the South for so long. But you don't hear me complaining about the hot Summer that is going on UP here like I hear some of the locals do. I hope I have enough years left in me to maybe one day do so. The music from all the Bands the rocked the car show all day I was thankful for.The Copper Country has a lot of talent in music too.

Harley or Honda?

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Monday, July 19, 2010 - 01:35 pm:

Uncle Chuck, my thoughts, both Harley Davidson and Honda make great bikes. But nothing matches the deep, throaty sound of the Harley. We have both brands. Both made in America. Keep the shiny side up!

I absolutely agree with that. I find it a bit scary when "vintage" cars are younger than yours truly! Yikes!

Thunder in the Harbor: Does Copper Harbor change its name to "Chopper" Harbor for the day? <smile>

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Monday, July 19, 2010 - 01:55 pm:

Rebuttal: Both bikes are certainly kings of the road, but nothing beats the comfort-ride of the Goldwing while listening to your favorite CD, immersed in beautiful "surround-sound" stereo. Loud noise of a different nature.
I think Uncle Chuck is trying to push our buttons JT :)

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Monday, July 19, 2010 - 02:17 pm:

No buttons pushed here....I love my little blk/silver Honda Rebel! Even tho next to my hubby's Dyna Low Rider it is miniatured a bit, lol! I had to sell my Harley Sportster this year due to major lower vertabre damage/surgery a few years back, has left my right leg with slow oncoming weakening from the nerve damage the injury left me with. But I'm optimistic and still riding. Giddy-UP! :)

By Uncle Chuck at Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Monday, July 19, 2010 - 02:17 pm:

Alex & JT, I've had an opportunity to ride both and be around them, had alot of fun. Didn't want to get anybodys dander U.P., just wondering readers preference, personally being diabetic now and insulin dependent, I wouldn't trust myself on either any more. Im more the 4x4 truck so I can get in the woods.

Both of you, safe travels!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Monday, July 19, 2010 - 02:22 pm:

U.C. I understand the limitation reason. That's another reason why we are getting more and more into ATV's now than what we were. Our ATV's are going to be my future Rascal, Hoveround, wheelie chairs!

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Monday, July 19, 2010 - 02:46 pm:

Where there any 1957 Chevys in the bunch?

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Monday, July 19, 2010 - 04:22 pm:

Uncle Chuck...all in fun, righteous dude.
JT and Uncle Chuck...I too, am beginning to understand the physical limitations of riding. That's why I have been considering a convertible, if and when the time comes. I really love the open-air experience on the road.

Nice post David Hiltunen.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Monday, July 19, 2010 - 05:08 pm:

David's post was very well written and I could feel through his words just how wonderful it is for him to be home once again. He is a real yooper!

By Donna (Donna) on Monday, July 19, 2010 - 06:38 pm:

Hey David.....WELCOME HOME DUDE!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Monday, July 19, 2010 - 07:09 pm:

David -great synopsis of your Keweenaw visit, we all know what a special place it is. ;-)

It would have been nice to be up there for the cruise and show over the weekend; me and the Roadrunner would have loved it!!

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Monday, July 19, 2010 - 07:17 pm:

David's posts are always a good read, he's down-to-earth. After all, I go to Gatlinburg, TN, his former State, every year. I just wish he would start using that profile picture with him holding a chicken in one hand and an axe in the other. A downright classic, y’all!

By John D. (Hansvonuper) on Monday, July 19, 2010 - 07:51 pm:

I will take a BMW and no noise except in my headsets over any other bike.

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Monday, July 19, 2010 - 08:47 pm:

Out of all the Woodward Dream Cruise's we ever went to, will never compare to the one in Copper Harbor. The one downstate is to many people for me. That red beatle-bug in the first picture looks like the one we saw parked in front of the Loading Zone. I love the color on that Cadilac and if it had a white interior, it would have sent me over the moon. ;O)

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Monday, July 19, 2010 - 09:16 pm:

David, I know how happy you are to be back home. I'm pretty sure I'd feel that way if I moved back too, but my grandkids are so important in my life that I would have a hard time leaving them, even for the UP. I'm sure glad you're enjoying yourself so much. We'll be there in a couple of weeks.

By Ken ja Mimi from da UP (Kenjamimi) on Monday, July 19, 2010 - 10:31 pm:

There's alreaady a 'Chopper' in Eagle Harbor, 'eh Charlie? :o)

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Monday, July 19, 2010 - 11:30 pm:

Thank you all. not one 57.. a 54.. 55 only

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 - 12:09 am:

Deb, I am with you on that. Couldn't leave the grandkids for anything. Would rather be with them then to win the lotto.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 - 08:02 am:

They add so much to our lives, Mikie. They keep us young. Couldn't give that up just yet.

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 - 11:56 am:

It is not easy to leave grandkids behind as I did when you been with them since the day they were born. Mike & Deb, do you also have grandkids that you don't get to see very often as I do? Maybe that made it easier for me to leave two out of ten granddaughters behind in TN. because I been missing one in KS. one in FL. six in MN. for so long? But still I miss them so much. When they get older and come UP here to vacation with their family I think they will see & feel the connection as to why papa had to go away..
