What is wrong with Aoki? The Byykkonen uses vowels in a language other than English? I didn't know
y and k were vowels. I must be missing something.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Saturday, June 19, 2010 - 11:42 am:

Tom, I was always taught that y can be a vowel. The saying I learned was a, e, i, o, u, and sometimes y. I received my early education in California and Texas. Y can be a vowel in English, like in the preposition "by", as in "by the table", for instance. But you're definitely right, Aoki is a correct response.

Have a good Saturday, all!

Tom (Tom):
"What is wrong with Aoki?"

I'm not sure I understand the question.
Double vowels? There are none in "Takashi Aoki"!

Other than that, "what is wrong with Aoki" is that he hasn't visited here since (click →) October 16, 2007! I'm sure a lot of us would like to hear from him again! I certainly hope he's still doing well, as noted in his last message!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, June 19, 2010 - 02:06 pm:

I think Charlie meant double, as in the same. Otherwise, Aoki would have counted too. And Marianne is right, Y is considered to be a consonant or a vowel. I learned that growing up in grade school at St. Joseph's in Lake Linden. Of course, the K isn't a vowel but it doesn't need to be since the Y already counted in Ashley's last name. And her picture was adorable, along with the view from the Mighty Mac. Those were my 2 favorites of the day, though they were all excellent as always.

Have a great day everybody!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Saturday, June 19, 2010 - 02:39 pm:

Ok, so I interpreted "double vowel" to mean two vowels in a row, not necessarily the same two vowels in a row.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, June 19, 2010 - 02:51 pm:

And it could have been. It's all in how you interpreted it. I just assumed it was the same because Charlie only said 3. There is no wrong interpretation, I don't think.

By Yooperguide (Huntandfish) on Saturday, June 19, 2010 - 05:20 pm:

This is like being back in school. Shouldn't the focus be on the pictures???? :)

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, June 19, 2010 - 05:25 pm:

Well, this morning it was about who took the pictures.

Knew eventually you'd say something negative!

Hey, all I know is that when my dangling participles and by hemorrhoidal suppositories are in check, I'm a happy man.

By DEAN SCHWARTZ SR. (Lulu) on Saturday, June 19, 2010 - 08:15 pm:

It took me three try's to write the names of the photographers on a sheet of paper. Double vowels I thought are two vowels in a row, i.e. bookeeper. By the way I wish all a very Happy Father's Day.
