Dotsie (Dorothy) Stewart manages to find interesting subjects to photograph around town and likes to share them with us. Today she takes us to Hubbell, to check out some outstanding flowers. The following note accompanied Dotsie's pictures:

Every year this lady in Hubbell grows the biggest and most beautiful plants in the area. We always refer to her as the plant lady and have been lusting over her hanging baskets. When our summer company comes to visit they always comment on seeing her plants. It has become a ritual for us. It's only the beginning of June and they are already "huge" --- by the end of summer they will be almost to the ground. She claims she doesn't give them any special food but waters them every night. She buys them locally and they have grown almost twice the size since she got them in mid May. BEAUTIFUL.!!!!
These baskets of flowers always catch my eye, too and since Dotsie said that they aren't given any special food, the bountiful growth must be attributed to the sentiment on the sign below them on her porch: All things grow with love. Obviously, the "plant lady" showers them with plenty of love to get results like this!

Great flowers!! Maybe they grow so well because of the love they get. Love is so good for every living thing.

Grown with love and maybe Miracle Grow fertilizer?

Oooops! I read she doesn't use special food. She just has a natural knack for growing flowers. That's a gardner's true gift!

Please vote for the Copper Country Humane Society. They can use all the help they can get.

Just told Vicky her flowers were on Pasty Central. It's on the main street just before you get to Hubbell---just out of Tamarack City. There is a tire shop next door. They are absolutely gorgeous--the pictures really don't do them justice!!!! You can't miss the house.
She says she waters them every night with NO plant food-----I don't know how she does it.

Many years coming up here to see about my mom and vacations, I remember that house and the hanging flowers, beautiful.

I also remember the road to Calumet from Lake Linden, there was someone who always put something out for every holiday, only this time I did not see a flag for Memorial Day. Hope he is o.k.?

pkuusisto,
it was a wonderful effort by yoopers to bring the
grand prize to cchs in the last voting session
on theanimalrescuesite. this session shows
very splintered factions in michigan which would at most,
bring top honors of michigan and/or 'a weekly
honor'. i've decided to cast my vote to
my sister's state shelter which is 'in the
run for the money'. sorry.

She must really have an amazing knack with those plants if she's
able to keep them flowering all summer like that with no feeding.

Supertunias and Calibrachoa (in the hanging planters) are known to
be hungry plants needing a lot of fertilizer. I always use those
Miracle Gro Plant Food Spikes to keep mine showy all summer.

My hat's off to her! Gorgeous pics.
