If you've been outside in the past few days here in the Keweenaw, you may have caught the scent of lilacs once again filling the air. It looks like the butterflies have picked it up and they're busy collecting nectar for their nourishment. Cathy Westcott was lucky enough to capture one of those butterflies as it was perched and drinking. This is one of those times that I wish we had "scratch and sniff" technology for the Internet, as lilacs are my favorite flower and I'd love to lean in and catch that scent myself.

Barb Bouwkamp found another of the springtime flowers that fill the air with a beautiful scent...that of a flowering fruit tree. You'll notice I didn't specify which type of fruit, since I'm not positive, but I'm leaning toward a crabapple tree with that deeper pink shade. Set against that brilliant blue sky, these blooms make a striking statement of color, almost shouting that spring is in the air!

Our lilac blossoms have already faded down here in the Ohio Valley, and it's always sad when they 'go', they just don't last long enough! We have 2 bushes in our backyard....one to the left and one to the right of our backporch, so when they're in full bloom we get a double dose of that wonderful aroma when we step out the door! Mary, lilacs are my favorite flower also.

Hey Charlie......I see you visited Greenfield Village on your recent trip...I wish I had known you would have been passing thru, it's my place of work and would have been happy to show you my area ( the DT&M Roundhouse ). If you get down this way again, let me know, eh ?

Beautiful photos, today! Saw what I think was a butterfly like the 1 in the picture when I was out in my front yard yesterday. Mackinac Island's Butterfly House ought 2 b open now, or soon, shouldn't it?
