I really don't mind the winters all that much, here UP North, but this time of year, with new growth everywhere is definitely my favorite. The brown, drab ground is greening up and flowers like this bunch of red tulips from Ellie and Marv Hopf, are popping out all over. At first glance, I thought this was a bunch of poppies in bloom. I even asked my hubby if our poppies out at the farm are up, yet and he said they're up, but the bud still hasn't opened up to all that color. So then I took a closer look and realized these were some hardy tulips, standing there all tall and smilling.

Then I found the second picture, from Melanie Hakala Rossi and knew it had to go on along as the perfect complement to the big bunch of red beauties. Melanie managed to capture the outside beauty of the petals, while giving us a glimpse of the sky from the viewpoint of tulips themselves. Two unique perspectives of one of the Keweenaw's more common signs, that spring is surely in the air now.

Just a little late getting the flowers on this morning. We only made it as far as Stuart, Iowa, in our travels back from Utah to Michigan. Sunny morning here, too.

The voting is on again until August 22. Vote every day, let the CCHS do it again.

Good color!

Stuart, IA! Of all places, that is where my paternal grandmother's people are from. The actual town has a crossroads and a grain elevator and 4 bars as I remember. You are just east of the area made famous by the book The Bridges of Madison County, not to mention Winterset, IA the birthplace of John Wayne.

Mary my first impression was poppies also. But mine are bright orange. So delicate and so stunning. I miss them from my house in the country. So frustrating that poppies can't be picked for a vase, they don't hold up. Then these tulips are so gorgeous too. Funny how much time difference there is from here to the UP with the flowers and flowering trees. The many purple trees were especially grand this year!

I am about to continue on building my Ark as it has been raining here all month in northern Monroe County.
There is a report of some 80° weather this weekend.

Pam and Jim: I voted every day in the last CCHS poll with the help of the daily reminder. The reminder and the voting link was really appreciated. Hopefully the daily reminder will continue. Thanks!

Eddyfitz...I know what you mean. I was getting ready to fit my Goldwing with a set of pontoons, but the forcast looks rather promising.

BEAUTIFUL PICTURES, TODAY!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 - 03:27 pm:

I'm curious to know, is there other shelters in the U.P. that could use these votes to help out with their needy pets?

By William Pekuri (Wcpekuri) on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 - 04:35 pm:

Hope Charlie waved when he came through Owatonna MN on I-35 on his way back.

By Yooperguide (Huntandfish) on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 - 05:36 pm:

Janie; The Ontonagon County Animal Protection is in bad need of the money also. You can't get there by entering OCAP, you have to enter; Ontonagon, MI and that'll get you there.
Hope the rest of you will vote.

Thankyou Yooperguide! My votes will go that way to Ontonagon, give them a chance this time. In reality all shelters are in great need for their deeds in the care and watch for abandon pets of all kinds.

By Smfwlk (Trollperson) on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 - 06:49 pm:

Since myself & many other trollpersons (many that I talked to & had voting for the CCHS in the last Animal Rescue Site Shelter Challenge Contest), helped you enormously in getting you the big $ win, I think it's time for the UP & LP to come together and vote for one in the LP this time because we're just as needy, please. How about the Mecosta County Animal Rescue? Any other LP suggestions?
Thank you

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 - 06:59 pm:

"Trollperson", I like your idea.....seems fair to me and I'll make a note of the Mecosta Co. shelter. Afterall, doggies and catties everywhere need our help and love!:)
