Pictures like today's from Krista Chamberlain, are just the ticket to make you smile. What is more contagious than children's laughter in the playground, where they can throw all their cares to the wind and just play, play, play. Krista's boys sure look like they're enjoying every minute of the climbing, sliding and swinging, so you know they must have worked up an appetite. Not to worry, though, because the older of the three boys took charge of making something to fill their bellies once they got back home. Yum.... peanut butter and pickle sandwiches... I haven't had one of those in years. Time to go check the fridge, hopefully I can find a jar hiding in the back and make a PB&P of my own. :->

Precious...to just enjoy the moment.

By Richard L. Barclay (Notroll) on Thursday, May 6, 2010 - 08:45 am:

I've never had one of those sandwiches shown here. Just the usual PB&J. Kind of following in Charlies tracks, though. Yesterday we were at
Crazy Horse in Wyoming
and this morning looking out our motel room window in Sheridan this is the view.
Sheridan, Wyoming 5/6/10
Does a Yooper's heart good to see snow in May!

Using Jiff peanut butter, the one "choosey moms choose Jiff."

By Dale Beitz (Dbeitz) on Thursday, May 6, 2010 - 09:31 am:

In the 4th pic showing the pickles on the bread, I don't see any peanut butter on the bread. Maybe one child was having a PB sandwich and the other a pickle sandwich, but not both ingredients on one sandwich? I'd never heard of the PB&P combo, but apparently Mary has. I've had the standard PB&J, and also like PB& honey. But I'm not so sure about PB&P.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Thursday, May 6, 2010 - 10:04 am:

The boy in the first photo would make a great bridge-worker...not afraid of heights.
Has anyone ever tried a potato chip and mayonnaise sandwich before? Two slices of bread with mayonnaise on each slice, a handful of potato chips in-between the bread. Smash down and waa-la! Tortilla chips work well, too. I do not endorse this sandwich, as it is for the lazy and the nutritionally inept.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, May 6, 2010 - 10:13 am:

Looks like Sheridan, WY in the springtime to me....
I saw snow a couple of weeks ago as well and in all places..... Lincoln, NM!! (didn't run across Billy the Kid, however)

By Cheryl Rozman (Cotton) on Thursday, May 6, 2010 - 10:44 am:

Some snow in the forecast for Saturday in the UP. Don't imagine it'll be much or last very long. But then again we're in God's Country. Ya never know..
Has anyone ever had a peanut butter & brown sugar sandwich?? My husband & two girls like them. I'd never heard of them before I saw them eat them. I like good ole PB&J.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Thursday, May 6, 2010 - 11:01 am:

Looks like the young man in the 'swinging' picture has his shoes on the wrong feet. What I don't understand is why they can't just accidentally get them on the right feet? That has to be uncomfortable. Can you even get your shoes on the wrong feet now?

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Thursday, May 6, 2010 - 11:03 am:

I make peanut butter and honey sandwiches and they pretty darn good, especially if you have a sweet tooth (which I do).

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Thursday, May 6, 2010 - 11:53 am:

spagetti sandwich with miracle whip. Everytime I make a pot of spagetti-have to make one. YUM-YUM.

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Thursday, May 6, 2010 - 11:55 am:

OH YEAH! I like potato chips on a baloney sandwich with mustard.

By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Thursday, May 6, 2010 - 12:19 pm:

Early on I lost interest in PB&J, especially using the traditional grape jelly. The jelly was pretty uncooperative about spreading on the bread. Now on the other hand, PB & raspberry jam/preserves was, and still is a much better combo for me!

Incidentally, nothin' personal, just using this as an example, but:
Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex):
"Smash down and waa-la!"

Waa-la?

It's just amazing how many folks use that or something very similar. I wonder where folks get that term from. If ye'r gonna use a French term, use the French term!

voilą, pronounced [vwah-lah]:

"Lo! There it is" imperative of voir "to see" + la "there", used to call attention to or express satisfaction with a thing shown or accomplished, as in: "Mix the ingredients, chill, and voilą! a light, tasty dessert."

So, voilą! there's our pasty language lesson for today!

By
Diana P. (Diana) on Thursday, May 6, 2010 - 12:44 pm:

Frnash, perhaps Alex took Spanish in school, not French. :)

Voila, is a great word; but how do you attach the accent mark? I know I've seen a sheet of things like that, but forget how to locate it here. :)

By Jodie (Jodiehagan) on Thursday, May 6, 2010 - 12:49 pm:

Da term Waa-la is da term used in da UP for voil. It goes up der on da list wit Holy Wa, and Ya eh.

If all else fails, and you're using some version of Windows®, you can always use the Character Map tool to copy the accented character and then paste it into your message:

Oooh, da Yooper "voilą", eh?
Ya, I could unnerstand dat, but I see it everywhere, not yust in Yooperland! {wan smile}

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Thursday, May 6, 2010 - 01:25 pm:

All I know is that magicians use this term all the time just before they pull a rabbit out of a hat and the rabbit is always eating a potato chip and mayonnaise sandwich, don't ya know. Now, this was before Hi-Def, so it could have been an Australian Waa-llaby.

Doesn't anyone remember the song: Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport?

Watch me wallabies feed, mate
Watch me wallabies feed,
They're a dangerous breed, mate
So watch me wallabies feed
Altogether now!

Tie me kangaroo down, sport
Tie me kangaroo down
Tie me kangaroo down, sport
Tie me kangaroo down

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Thursday, May 6, 2010 - 02:24 pm:

You betcha, Alex, I love Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport. What a fun song! I don't use iTunes all that much, but that is one of my downloads, over the years, LOL!

By Jim MacMurray (Jimm14a) on Thursday, May 6, 2010 - 02:47 pm:

I haven't had a peanut butter and pickle sandwich in years! We used to put some Miracle Whip on it too. I can taste it now just thinking about it! Yum?!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, May 6, 2010 - 04:00 pm:

All these creative PB&J, PB&P etc. sandwiches make me wonder if that is what Elvis's Graceland menu read.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, May 6, 2010 - 04:04 pm:

FRNash....I don't know if it still exist, but when our daughter was little there was a product called "Goober Grape" it was PB & grape jelly pre-packaged in a jar. Made a PB&J sandwich in no time.

By Rowdy (Roudymi) on Thursday, May 6, 2010 - 04:20 pm:

Let's make those part of the "North Beach Diet". Perhaps the youth program. With FRNash's approval of course.

By Ken ja Mimi from da UP (Kenjamimi) on Thursday, May 6, 2010 - 11:00 pm:

A little boy was putting his shoes on, Mom said,
"Jimmie, you're putting your shoes on the wrong feet." He told his Mom, "These are the only feet I have. They can't be the wrong feet." :o)
