Leave it to Joyce Tormala to capture Copper Country critters at their best. I'm not sure if these ducks are bathing, fishing for food or just playing in the clear, running water, but whatever they're doing, these are some great shots. My favorite is the first one with the water cascading over the duck's head like that. In the second shot, there could be some fishing for dinner involved, since it "ducked" it's head completely under water like that. If you look close at the last photo, you can see where the water droplets are coming off the duck's head, as it comes back up for air. Animal antics, just the thing to start the day off with a smile.

I like today's duck pictures!

By Richard L. Barclay (Notroll) on Thursday, April 15, 2010 - 09:03 am:

Those ducks are hopefully scraping the rocks on the bottom for blackfly larvae - I believe that is where the little suckers hide!

Here's today's numbers - they are up .07 we are up .09 since yesterday. There are .06 percentage points between us.
Go Pasties!
CCHS Vote as of 4-15-10

Except for the dribble from its beak the third picture looks almost as if it had been taken underwater looking up. It had me wondering for a minute how it was accomplished - that fish's eye view. I also noticed water running off the duck's back! :D

Here's an address touting new stamps coming out at the end of April as well as the first paragraph from the site:

Great photos, especially the first one.

By Cindy, New Baltimore, MI (Cindy) on Thursday, April 15, 2010 - 09:56 am:

I love the pics today. All of the excitement about the voting race has inspired me to start looking for a dog to adopt. By the way, I vote faithfully each day, too, and I'm hoping it will pay off for the Copper Country Humane Society. Unfortunately, I'm too far away from Copper Harbor to adopt an animal there, but I hear that there is a "Meet Your Best Friend" adoption day at the Detroit Zoo on May 1st. All the rescues in the area bring animals to adopt, so I think I'll start there.

By Lisa R. (Sisugirl) on Thursday, April 15, 2010 - 11:19 am:

Great pictures today! Ducks are too cute!

Still voting at work and home. My sister and I think a few friends are also voting. I hope we can surpass them and keep the lead!

I love the new shelter stamps. I'll have to buy a bunch of them.

Cindy, that's wonderful that you feel inspired to adopt a dog. Good for you (and for the lucky best friend you will find)! I hope you will share the story with us.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Thursday, April 15, 2010 - 11:31 am:

Cindy, for what it is worth, my oldest son rescued a wonderful little dog from the humane society in Westland. He went to visit the little guy 2 or 3 times, and then called to reserve him on an October Friday at noon, and picked Toby up the next day. You might want to check that one out if you are looking for a dog. The humane society had neutered the dog, pulled a tooth, and fixed a hernia, all before my son saw Toby the first time. We are really impressed with them. (My son just managed to get the dog, too, because apparently the society got a dozen calls that Friday afternoon, all after my son's call.)

I love the diving duck pictures today. :-)

Has there been any TV or newspaper coverage in Houghton of the challenge? If not, they need to do a story NOW to get everyone in the area into the voting ~
