I think it's official, it's really Springtime in the Keweenaw. E. Neil Harri confirms if for us with this aerial view, showing not a speck of snow in the Calumet area. The remaining four photos are actually enlargements of the main photo, so you can all get a closer look at what's going on in downtown Calumet and vicinity. Neil said he took the photo from this angle so it would highlight the old mining buildings, such as the Roundhouse. I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I'm not sure which building is actually the Roundhouse... I'm leaning towards the Calumet Electronics building, because it's semi-circular, but maybe it's the building across the road? Can somebody help me out?

I don't think I've seen Calumet from the air before. Cool!!

Its the Calumet Electronics building. Which had several additions added to the original building.

That's the BP Amoco station where I always make a pit stop before heading UP to Copper Harbor.

Is anything happening with the railroad depot? Thought there was a renovation project in the works......

Great photos as always, Neil, of the Village of Calumet! I can see my house on Eighth Street. Calumet is a wonderful community to raise a family, and I have a great group of friends still living in the area. Hopefully I can get across the bridge to visit them all soon! Again, thank you Neil for giving us who are away a bit of home! Enjoy the day everyone; the sun is shining here in the Lower Peninsula.

Always like the aerial pictures, I was looking at today's photos for thr extension of Sixth Street through Centennial Heights and into the valley behind where we lived for five years as "those hippies!" Way up in the upper right of the first photos is approximately where we lived -

Calumet Electronics has come a long way since I worked for them in the late 1970's. I will be coming home to the U.P. next month,& I will try to get this hot Tennessee weather to follow me on up.

Nothin' more than diligent voting from both MSIE and Firefox, on my laptop (Win XP}and the same two browsers on my new desktop PC (Win7) for the last two days. That's at most 4 votes per day for me. I have not tried deleting cookies and voting again!

I was trying to find the news article's on my Uncle's disappearance and passing and saw a couple of postings in March on google leading to here. I was surprised to see that there is another Marvin Manninen on Bumbletown. My Uncle was Marvin L. Manninen and was found Tues. We can't get to the Copper Country very often but when there we loved spending time with him and my Aunt Lois. It is hard to think he will no longer be there.

After looking at these pictures, I have a question please: What has happened to the beautiful AgassiPark and the statue of Agassi?

A semicircular building next to a street called Depot Street - sounds like it would always be a safe bet for a roundhouse, former or not.

Does anyone know what "Peace Pipe" means?
Does it mean "Calumet" or "Indian Pipe"?

Bev I've always understood that "calumet" meant Indian peace pipe or just Indian pipe.And...good morning this fine morning everyone. Our taste of summer here ( in the 80s) is about to revert back to spring. Spring is never long enough for me.
