Today is the Great Bear Chase in Calumet, with a bit of a challenge this year: lack of snow. Name two years in today's decade review that include this sport.

2000 and 2007?

Perhaps you're referring to the 'Nordic' theme in 2000. Skiers actually appear in 2007 and 2009.

I think Paul was referring to the "City of Trails" motto in 2000. And the boat is probably on skis.

I had never heard of The Great Bear Chase before. At first, I thought that it involved a couple of imported grizzlies from Alaska, chasing contestants around the Keweenaw.

As usual, LOVED Dan's picture! He really had a way with the camera!

With the coming of warm weather I should be counting the days in anticipation of leaving for the UP. Instead,the countdown is to March 17th the day my husband will be in the VA Hospital in Miami undergoing a total hip replacement. He is 88 and I am really worried. Your thoughts and prayers would be appreciated very much.

Erica Pasty Central has a whole lot of powerful prayers---you husband will be fine I'm sure. They are stubborn, too, and don't let up.

Erica--I will send good wishes to you and your husband for successful surgery and a quick recovery. He'll up and dancing before you know it. Have him put me on his dance card. Keep us posted.
