Earlier in the week I received today's photos in my Inbox from Roberta Chabot, along with this note:

These are pictures of the ice jammed up, above the car bridge on the Ontonagon River late in the afternoon, Monday, March 15th. The massive ice jam left the river at 1:53 a.m. that next morning, Tuesday, March 16th. To accompany these photos, my brother-in-law, Larry Chabot, sent me the following information about the Ontonagon River. It is one of the largest river systems in Michigan, with 5 major branches and hundreds of tributaries. It's combined length is 1,291 miles spread across five counties and two states. Then Larry goes on to say, "When the Ontonagon comes roaring, get out of the way!"

Happy, Happy, Happy Birthday Charlie and many more! The East Branch of the Ontonagon River runs right by my dad's place in Mass City. In fact, that river is why I am in Lansing. Back on Labor Day weekend in 1975 a group of young men from Lansing decided that the East Branch of the Ontonagon was a really good bet for canoeing and that's how I met my former husband and that's how I got to Lansing...well, not actually in a canoe. That river's not so much fun in September, but in the spring it's rip-roarin' and for experts only. Woo hoo!!

Good photos. BTW, speaking of a branch of the Ontonagon River, the South Branch of it has a creek named Maple Leaf Creek about 1 1/3 miles north of Ewen. Does anyone know if it's good 4 dipping 4 small fish species?

I would like to thank the person who put the website for the Ely bear den. I've been an ardent follower since the cubs birth in Jan. I also discovered some eagle cams out east in a refuge. It's been so entertaining and educational reading all the info they have to offer on bears and eagles. Yes, we have eagles here but these cams are up close and personal.

Roberta thank you for some powerful and exciting photos. I can almost hear the reviberations.Wish I was there.
